Michael George Murphy (born May 5, 1938) is an American film, television and stage actor. He often plays unethical or morally ambiguous characters in positions of authority, including politicians, executives, and lawyers. He is also known for his frequent collaborations with director Robert Altman, having appeared in twelve films, TV series and miniseries directed by Altman from 1963 to 2004, including the title role in the miniseries ''Tanner '88''. Michael Murphy (Templederry Hurler)
Michael Murphy (born 1959) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Templederry Kenyons and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a forward. Career Murphy first played juvenile and underage hurling with the Templederry Kenyons club before joining the club's top adult team. He had some divisional success, winning a North Tipperary Intermediate Championship title. Murphy first appeared on the inter-county scene with the Tipperary minor team that won the All-Ireland Minor Championship in 1976. He progressed onto the Tipperary under-21 team and won back-to-back All-Ireland Under-21 Championship titles from three consecutive finals appearances between 1978 and 1980. Murphy subsequently made a number of league and championship appearances with the Tipperary senior hurling team and was part of the National Hurling League-winning side in 1979. Michael Murphy (Indiana Politician)
Michael B. Murphy served as a Republican member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing the 90th District from 1994 to 2010. A conservative, Murphy was known for his speeches on behalf of free markets, adherence to the 10th Amendment, and elimination of government regulation. Murphy authored the most sweeping de-regulation of the telecommunications industry (2006) for its time. His bill was signed into law by Governor Mitch Daniels. Murphy also led the effort to cut the Indiana Inheritance Tax in half, and authored an amendment to the Indiana Constitution (Article 5, Section 10), which set up a succession order in Indiana state government. The citizens of Indiana approved the amendment in the November, 2004 election. Murphy may be best known for his defense of the rights of immigrants to constitutional and humane treatment. Mick Murphy (speedway Rider)
John Glass (1911 – 1998) was a motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. During his speedway career he rode under the pseudonym Mick Murphy. Career Glass was born in Scotland but emigrated to Perth in Australia with his parents as a child. In 1925, at the age of 14, he rode up to the Claremont Speedway track and asked for a trial. He had borrowed his father's helmet so asked that his name not be released. Therefore, the name Mick Murphy (the Irish champion) was created. He won the 1930/31 New South Wales Individual Speedway Championship. He arrived in the United Kingdom from Australia to race in the Britain during the 1931 season after signing for the Stamford Bridge Pensioners. He also made an appearance for the Wimbledon Dons during 1931 and rode in the final of the National Trophy for Stamford Bridge, losing out to Wembley Lions. Michael Murphy (born January 15, 1989) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Murphy is currently an assistant coach for the Queen's Golden Gaels women's ice hockey. He last played with Dornbirner EC of the Austrian Hockey League (EBEL). Murphy has the unique distinction of being the only goalie in league history to record a regulation loss before allowing a goal in his career, which he achieved during a 7–6 loss to the Calgary Flames on December 6, 2011. Playing career Murphy was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft with the 165th overall pick. On March 18, 2009, he signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Hurricanes. In 2007–08, Murphy led the Belleville Bulls to the finals of the J. Michael John Murphy (born September 12, 1950) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League for 13 years for the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings and has been Assistant and Head Coach in the NHL for The Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. Michael Murphy (28 April 1934 – 10 September 2015) was an Irish cyclist. He won the Rás Tailteann in 1958. Early life Murphy was a native of Cahirsiveen. He left school at 11 and worked variously as a farm labourer, a quarryman and a turf-cutter. Career Murphy was nicknamed the Iron Man. In 1958 he won the Rás Tailteann, winning seven of the eight stages. He won two stages in 1959 and was third in 1960. Murphy was known for his eccentricity, and was the subject of several works: an RTÉ radio documentary, ''A Convict of the Road''; a documentary short made for the Killorglin Archive Society called ''The Marvels of Mick Murphy''; a play based on his life by Roddy McDevitt, and a character based on him in Jane Urquhart's novel ''The Night Stages''. Michael Murphy (Australian Footballer)
Michael Murphy (born 8 September 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the North Melbourne Football Club, Adelaide Football Club and the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Murphy, a key position player from Renmark, came to North Melbourne after being selected with the ninth pick of the 1987 VFL Draft. He played three times in the 1988 VFL season then returned to the club he was recruited from, Glenelg in the SANFL. Murphy was a centre half back in the 1990 Grand Final, which Glenelg lost to Port Adelaide. His performances during the year saw him make the Adelaide Football Club's squad for their entry into the AFL in 1991. In just his second game, Murphy kicked a bag of six goals against Footscray at Football Park.
