Michael Murphy (Templederry Hurler)
Michael Murphy (born 1959) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Templederry Kenyons and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a forward. Career Murphy first played juvenile and underage hurling with the Templederry Kenyons club before joining the club's top adult team. He had some divisional success, winning a North Tipperary Intermediate Championship title. Murphy first appeared on the inter-county scene with the Tipperary minor team that won the All-Ireland Minor Championship in 1976. He progressed onto the Tipperary under-21 team and won back-to-back All-Ireland Under-21 Championship titles from three consecutive finals appearances between 1978 and 1980. Murphy subsequently made a number of league and championship appearances with the Tipperary senior hurling team and was part of the National Hurling League-winning side in 1979. Templederry Kenyons GAA
Templederry Kenyons GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "North-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the village of Templederry. History Templederry affiliated as a club in 1887 with FR J. Frost C.C. and James Coughlan of Latteragh the leading organisers. However, from 1906 to the end of the 1920s the club had very little success. In 1931, a re-united Templederry parish team reached the North Tipperary Intermediate hurling final for the first time and had a comprehensive 7–4 to 3–3 victory over Roscrea. Templederry then went up to Senior but were unable to make the breakthrough and returned to Intermediate ranks in the late 1930s. The 1980 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship was the 17th staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. Tipperary were the defending champions. On 14 September 1980, Tipperary won the championship following a 2-9 to 0-14 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final.
