Michael J. Dolan
Michael J. Dolan (born 1884) was an Irish actor known for '' Scrooge'' (1951), ''Captain Horatio Hornblower'' (1951) and '' Saints and Sinners'' (1949). He died on 21 October 1954 in Dublin, Ireland at the age of 70. He was a distinguished actor with the Abbey Theatre for many years where he appeared in many productions, and in December 1923 he took over management from Lennox Robinson. During that time he was stage manager, general manager and director. Dublin
Dublin (; , or ) is the capital and largest city of Ireland. On a bay at the mouth of the River Liffey, it is in the province of Leinster, bordered on the south by the Dublin Mountains, a part of the Wicklow Mountains range. At the 2016 census it had a population of 1,173,179, while the preliminary results of the 2022 census recorded that County Dublin as a whole had a population of 1,450,701, and that the population of the Greater Dublin Area was over 2 million, or roughly 40% of the Republic of Ireland's total population. ''Another Shore'' is a 1948 Ealing Studios comedy film directed by Charles Crichton. It stars Robert Beatty as Gulliver Shields, an Irish customs official who dreams of living on a South Sea island; particularly Rarotonga. It is based on the 1947 novel by Kenneth Sheils Reddin, an Irish judge. Plot The opening credits initially say "a comedy" but this is changed to "a tragedy". The orchestra plays Molly Malone as credits roll on a background of shamrocks telling the viewer that the setting is Ireland. Gulliver Sheils has left his career with the Revenue Commissioners in Dublin due to receiving a small pension. He spends every day but Sunday sitting at a park bench in St Stephen's Green hoping to help a fallen wealthy elderly person who will reward him with enough money to finance his one way trip to Rarotonga where he will spend the remainder of his days lolling about in the South Seas. The Ghost of Christmas Past is a fictional character in Charles Dickens' 1843 novella ''A Christmas Carol''. The Ghost is one of three spirits which appear to miser Ebenezer Scrooge to offer him a chance of redemption. Following a visit from the ghost of his deceased business partner Jacob Marley, Scrooge receives nocturnal visits by three Ghosts of Christmas, each representing a different period in Scrooge's life. The Ghost of Christmas Past is concerned with the Christmases from Scrooge's past. Appearing to be both young and old, the spirit carries a large cap in the shape of a candle extinguisher under its arm. Queen's Theatre, Dublin
The Queen's Theatre, Dublin, located in Pearse Street was originally built in 1829 as the Adelphi Theatre. This building was demolished in 1844 and rebuilt. It reopened that same year as the Queens Royal Theatre, the new owner having been granted a Royal Patent to operate as a patent theatre. The theatre quickly became known as simply the Queen's. It was most famous in the 20th century as the home of the Happy Gang, a troupe of comics, singers and musicians including Danny Cummins, Jimmy Harvey, Mick Eustace and Cecil Nash. The regular members of the "gang" took part in sketches as required, but in addition each had to be a solo performer in his own right.
