Michael Doherty (footballer)
Michael Doherty (born 20 August 1990 in Lanarkshire) is a Scottish association football, football Defender (football), defender currently without a club following his release from Clyde F.C., Clyde. He is a product of Clyde's youth system. Career Doherty signed a YTS contract with Clyde F.C., Clyde in July 2007, and was part of Clyde's Clyde F.C.#Youth team, Under 19 side. He made his senior debut on the Clyde F.C. season 2007-08, 14 August 2007, coming on as a substitute against Queen of the South F.C., Queen of the South in a 1-0 win in the Scottish League Cup. Doherty made Clyde history on this appearance, becoming the youngest person ever to play for Clyde in a competitive match, at the age of 16 years and 359 days. However, this record was beaten by Connor Stevenson 20 months later. He was released in June 2008 along with the rest of the YTS players. The Scottish League Cup (also known as the Viaplay Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a football competition open to all Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) clubs. First held in 1946–47, it is the oldest national League Cup in existence. The competition had a straight knockout format but became a group and knockout competition from 2016–17. Rangers are the record holders of the cup, winning 27 times. Celtic are the holders, winning their 20th title after beating Hibernian 2–1 at Hampden Park on 19 December 2021. Connor Stevenson
Conor Stevenson (born 23 August 1992) is a Scottish football midfielder who plays for Petershill. He has previously played in the Scottish Football League First Division for Clyde. Career Stevenson captained the Clyde Under-17 team during the 2008–09 season, and after impressing for the Reserve team, he signed a professional contract with the club in February 2009. Stevenson scored against Celtic in the Glasgow Cup in April 2009, and was included in the first team squad for the following weekend's fixture against Queen of the South. He made his debut in that game, coming on as a 53rd-minute substitute in a heavy 7–1 defeat. In doing so, he became the youngest player ever to play a competitive game for Clyde, at the age of 16 years and 245 days, beating the previous record held by Michael Doherty.
