Michael Claesson
Lieutenant General Leif ''Michael'' Claesson (born 1 March 1965) is a Swedish Army officer. He served as the Chief of Policy and Plans Department in the Defence Staff from 2018 to 2020. Claesson currently serves av Chief of Joint Operations. Early life Claesson was born on 1 March 1965 in Jönköping and grew up in Bankeryd, where he lived until he commenced his military service in 1984. Career He did his military service as a company commander operating Stridsvagn 103 tanks in the Norrbotten Armoured Battalion (I 19/P 5) in Boden from 4 June 1984 to 31 August 1985. He then attended the ''Officershögskolan pansar'' and the Swedish Armoured Troops Combat School (''Pansartruppernas stridsskola'', PS) in Skövde from 1985 to 1987 when he was promoted to second lieutenant. Boden (, outdatedly ) is a locality and the seat of Boden Municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden with 16,847 inhabitants in 2018. It is part of the larger area around coastal city Luleå some southeast. After Kiruna, it is the second largest town in Northern Sweden's interior. History The town of Boden started as a railway junction where the Northern Line (''Norra stambanan'', opened 1894) met with the Ore Line (''Malmbanan'') from the rich iron ore fields in northern Sweden. The town experienced increased growth when the Boden Fortress was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. The purpose of the fortress was to defend Sweden from a possible attack from the east, where Russia was considered the most dangerous threat. Norrbotten Regiment
The Norrbotten Regiment ( sv, Norrbottens regemente), designation I 19, is a Swedish Army arctic armoured, light infantry and commando regiment that traces its origins back to the 19th century. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the province of Norrbotten, and it is currently garrisoned in Boden, Norrbotten. The regiment has the responsibility for training two armoured and one special recon battalion, as well as number of Arctic light infantry battalions from the home guard as well as running the army's winter unit. As of 2018, the Norrbotten Regiment employs 489 professional officers, 402 full-time soldiers, 512 part-time soldiers, 116 civilians and 683 reserve officers.
