Mic Mac AAC
Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club (MMAAC) is located on Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. This organization provides structured recreational and competitive paddling, rowing, dragon boat, and swimming programs to the local community ages 6+. Summer day camp programs are also offered for kids ages 6-12. The club is part of Canoe Kayak Canada and Rowing Canada. MMAAC shares the beautiful Lake Banook with Banook Canoe Club, Senobe Aquatic Club, North Star Rowing Club, and Dragonboat East. Many local, provincial, national, and even world events are held for these programs each year on Lake Banook. CKC Nationals At the 2006 Canadian National Sprint Canoe/Kayak Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan, Mic Mac AAC came in third overall. The club finished behind champion Missisauga and Burloak. Lake Banook
Lake Banook is a freshwater lake located in Dartmouth within the Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is home to three sprint canoe and kayak clubs, two rowing clubs, and a dragon boat club. It also has a claim to be the birthplace of ice hockey. Location Lake Banook's eastern shore is bordered by Prince Albert Road (part of Trunk 7) and its western shore fronts Crichton Park, a residential neighbourhood. At the south end of the lake is a lock mechanism leading to Sullivan's Pond. At the north end of the lake a bridge carries the Highway 111 expressway, informally known as the Dartmouth Circumferential Highway over its waters. The bridge also serves as a dividing line between Lake Micmac, also referred to as Second Lake. Birch Cove Beach is the only beach on the lake that is currently supervised. Dartmouth ( ) is an urban community and former city located in the Halifax Regional Municipality of Nova Scotia, Canada. Dartmouth is located on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour. Canoe Kayak Canada (french: Canot Kayak Canada) is the governing body of competitive canoeing and kayaking disciplines in Canada. The three specific disciplines represented are flatwater, whitewater and marathon. Canoe Kayak Canada officially replaced the name "Canadian Canoe Association" in 2005, although the former title is still used by the organization. The name change came about from a desire to include the kayaking discipline in the organization's name. Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA), formally the Canadian Amateur Rowing Association, is a non-profit organization recognized by the Government of Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in Canada. RCA represents 15,000 registered members at all levels, including novices, juniors, university students, adaptive, seniors and masters, whether they row for recreation, health and fitness or competition. This includes clubs such as the St. Catharines rowing club, and the Victoria City Rowing Club. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys.
