Miami Freedom
The Miami Sharks were an inaugural franchise of the third incarnation of the American Soccer League in 1988. The team was renamed the Miami Freedom and joined the American Professional Soccer League in 1990 when the ASL merged with the Western Soccer League. The club played in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. Julio Moreira, a native of Ecuador, was Team President and General Manager during 1990–1991. He was replaced as Team President by David A. Donet, Esq. during a restructuring that also saw the firing of Head Coach David Irving. 1990 In 1990, the Miami Freedom played their first seasons in the new American Professional Soccer League (APSL) in the South Division of the league's East Conference. American Soccer League (1988–89)
The American Soccer League has been a name used by four different professional soccer sports league in the United States. In 1988, the third American Soccer League was created as an East Coast counterpart to the West Coast-based Western Soccer Alliance. Ian Fairbrother
Ian Fairbrother (born 2 October 1966) is an English retired footballer. He spent the majority of his career in the United States. He spent his youth career with Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, but began his professional career in 1984 with Liverpool. He never played any games for Liverpool's first team, and moved to Bury on a free transfer in 1986. In 1988, he moved to the United States to play for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the American Soccer League. However, he is not listed with Fort Lauderdale's first team that year. During the summer of 1989, he played for the amateur Wichita Blue in the Heartland Soccer League. On 14 December 1989, he signed with the Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Zico Doe
Ezekiel Koffa "Zico" Doe is a retired Liberian football (soccer) player who played professionally in the American Professional Soccer League, Major Soccer League and National Professional Soccer League. He was the 1991 American Professional Soccer League Rookie of the Year. Club career Doe played for several teams in Liberia including the Maryland County team, Yellow Boys and Invincible Eleven. In 1987, he moved to the United States to attend Sangamon State University. He had attended college in Liberia and enough of his credits transferred for him to enter Sangamon State as a sophomore. Scott Benedetti
Scott "Benny" Benedetti (born November 13, 1966 in Portland, Oregon) is an American retired soccer player. He began his professional career with the semi-professional F.C. Portland in 1986 and ended it with the U.S. second division club Portland Timbers in 2005. While he spent most of his career in the U.S. divisions, he had just over a season in Major League Soccer and half a season in the Primera División de México with UNAM Pumas. He earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1996. He played in such places as South Korea, Thailand, England, Austria and Scotland. Ken Snow
Kenneth Snow (June 23, 1969 – June 21, 2020) was an American soccer forward who was a two-time winner of the Hermann Trophy as the outstanding college soccer player in 1988 and 1990. He had an eight-year professional career playing indoor soccer in the United States. High school and college Ken Snow was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He grew up in Illinois and attended Hoffman Estates High School from 1983 to 1986 where he played soccer. While at Hoffman, Snow scored in 47 consecutive games, ranking him second, after his brother Steve Snow, on the Illinois High School Association's list of consecutive matches scored in. Dale Mulholland
Dale Mulholland (born August 16, 1964) is an American former soccer player who became a coach. As a player, he spent time in West Germany, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and his native United States. His most notable achievement as a player was signing for Lokomotiv Moscow in 1990. As a coach he was worked in Thailand, Indonesia and the United States. Early life Mulholland was born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1964. He attended University of Puget Sound and Warner Pacific College, where he majored in philosophy. Pedro Magallanes (born June 14, 1956) is a retired Argentine football (soccer) midfielder who played professionally in Argentina and the United States. Magallanes had an extensive career in Argentina. He played the 1978-1979 season with Independiente and he has also played for Rosario Central and Talleres de Córdoba. Rick Iversen is a retired American soccer defender who played professionally in the American Professional Soccer League and USISL. Youth In 1987, Iversen, in his only season with the San Diego State University men’s soccer team, went to the final of the 1987 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. He then transferred to California State University, Northridge. In December 1988, Iversen scored the game-winning goal to put CSUN into the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship final where they fell to Florida Tech. Grant Gibbs is a former U.S. soccer defender who spent his professional career in clubs F.C. Portland, Seattle Storm and Miami Freedom. Biography Gibbs grew up in Federal Way, Washington, where he attended Thomas Jefferson High School. After graduating from high school in 1982, Gibbs attended Warner Pacific College. While in college, he played for F.C. Portland of the Western Soccer Alliance (WSA) from 1985 to 1987. In 1988, he moved to the Seattle Storm where he played until the end of the 1990 season. John Garvey (soccer)
John Garvey (born March 26, 1969 in Guilford, Connecticut) is a retired American soccer player. Career College Garvey played college soccer at the University of Maryland from 1987 to 1990. Professional In 1991, following his graduation from Maryland, Garvey had a trial with Coventry City but was not offered a contract. Paul Dougherty (born 12 May 1966) is an English former professional soccer player and soccer coach who began his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. He then moved to the United States where he became a journeyman player, bouncing through sixteen teams in multiple indoor and outdoor leagues.
