Metropolitan Open
The Metropolitan Open is a golf tournament organized by the Metropolitan Golf Association. In the early 20th century it was one of the top events in the country and was retroactively given PGA Tour-level status. History The tournament has been played annually since 1905, and is the third oldest "open" golf tournament in the United States, after the U.S. Open and Western Open. It was staged for the first time in 1905 at Fox Hills Golf Club on Staten Island, which played the dual role of host and sponsor. In 1908, the Metropolitan Golf Association hosted the tournament for the first time. In 1914, Macdonald Smith shot recorded a 278 aggregate, the lowest score ever for a 72 hole tournament. It is held at member clubs in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. It was considered a PGA Tour event from 1916 to 1940. In fact, it was one of the "major" tournaments of this period. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Although most professional tournaments are played using the stroke play scoring system, some notable exceptions exist. In match play, the player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents. Match play scoring is used in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, the Volvo World Match Play Championship, and most team events, for example the Ryder Cup. A few golf tournaments, such as the Barracuda Championship have used a modified stableford system. Cameron Young
Cameron Young (born May 7, 1997) is an American professional golfer. He has twice finished in the top three in major championships and has several other runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour. He has also won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour. He was voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the 2021–22 season. Early life Young was born in Scarborough, New York. Danny Balin (born April 9, 1982) is an American professional golfer. Balin is a six-time PGA of America Metropolitan Section Player of the Year (2010, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2021), and the 2012, 2013 and 2021 New York State Open champion. Balin has played in nine major championships including the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 PGA Championships.
