Metrobus (Tegucigalpa)
The Metrobús is a public bus rapid transit system under construction in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The capital of Honduras suffered from severe traffic congestion for decades, and reliable public transportation system is badly needed. The mayor, Ricardo Antonio Álvarez Arias, announced on 25 November 2010 the construction of a Metrobus system, and that US$ 150 million dollars (570 million Lempiras) would be allocated for the construction by the Inter-American Bank of Development as a loan. The construction was expected to take between two and three years. On 24 October 2013, inhabitants of the Colonia John F. Kennedy demonstrated protesting construction of the metrobus terminal. In June 2016, the authorities were saying the system could be opened in 2017. Bus Rapid Transit
Bus rapid transit (BRT), also called a busway or transitway, is a bus-based public transport system designed to have much more capacity, reliability and other quality features than a conventional bus system. Typically, a BRT system includes roadways that are dedicated to buses, and gives priority to buses at intersections where buses may interact with other traffic; alongside design features to reduce delays caused by passengers boarding or leaving buses, or paying fares. BRT aims to combine the capacity and speed of a light rail or metro system (LRT, HRT) with the flexibility, lower cost and simplicity of a bus system. Tegucigalpa (, , ), formally Tegucigalpa, Municipality of the Central District ( es, Tegucigalpa, Municipio del Distrito Central or ''Tegucigalpa, M.D.C.''), and colloquially referred to as ''Tegus'' or ''Teguz'', is the capital and largest city of Honduras along with its sister city, Comayagüela. Claimed on 29 September 1578 by the Spaniards, Tegucigalpa became the country's capital on October 30, 1880, under President Marco Aurelio Soto, when he moved the capital from Comayagua. The Constitution of Honduras, enacted in 1982, names the sister cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela as a Central District to serve as the permanent national capital, under articles 8 and 295. Ricardo Álvarez Arias
Ricardo Antonio Álvarez Arias (born 4 February 1963) is the former mayor of Tegucigalpa and the former First Vice President of Honduras. He ran for Mayor of Tegucigalpa and won the 2005 elections and was re-elected on the 2009 elections representing the National Party of Honduras. In 2012, Álvarez ran for the National Party nomination for president, ultimately losing to Juan Orlando Hernández. Marcopolo S
Thor (previously known as Marcopolo) is a family of satellites designed, launched and tested by Hughes Space and Communications (now part of Boeing Satellite Systems) for British Satellite Broadcasting (BSB), and were used for Britain's Direct Broadcast Service. Thor is owned by Telenor. Marcopolo 1 launched on 27 August 1989 on the 187th launch of a Delta rocket, and Marcopolo 2 launched on 17 August 1990, on a Delta II rocket. Marcopolo I had the Hughes designation HS376. Although the satellites performed as designed, BSB merged with Sky Television to form British Sky Broadcasting and the BSB satellites were sold off and renamed. This also resulted in the obsoletion of the Squarial satellite-reception antenna, which was designed to operate with Thor 1 only.
