Metro Carl Rybchuk
Metro Carl Rybchuk (December 16, 1935 – October 15, 2021) owned a catering company and was a political figure in Saskatchewan. He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Province of Saskatchewan representing the constituency of Regina Victoria from 1982 to 1986 as a Progressive Conservative. He was the son of Nick and Minny Rybchuk. In 1958, he married Eileen J. Klenk. The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan is a conservative political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Prior to 1942, it was known as the Conservative Party of Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. Henry Harold Peter Baker
Henry Harold Peter Baker (November 24, 1915 – March 4, 2004) was an educator and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Regina East from 1964 to 1967, Regina South East from 1967 to 1971, Regina Wascana from 1971 to 1975 and Regina Victoria from 1975 to 1982 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and then New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Lipton, Saskatchewan and was educated there and in Regina and at the Regina Teachers' College. He taught school for several years and then served in the Royal Canadian Air Force teaching aircraft personnel during World War II. In 1944, Baker became secretary of the Saskatchewan Public Service Commission. He served on the city council for Regina and was mayor from 1958 to 1970 and from 1973 to 1979, becoming the city's longest-serving mayor; he was defeated by Harry Walker when he ran for reelection in 1970. 1982 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1982 Saskatchewan general election was held on April 26, 1982, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Progressive Conservative Party, led by Grant Devine, defeated the New Democratic Party government of Premier Allan Blakeney, which had governed the province since the 1971 election. The Tories won over half the popular vote, and a large majority in the legislature – the first time that the party had won an outright majority, and making Devine only the second Tory premier in the province's history. The only other time that the Tories had ever led a government was after the 1929 election, when James Anderson led a coalition government of Conservatives, Progressives and independents. 1986 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1986 Saskatchewan general election was held on October 20, 1986, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Progressive Conservative government of Premier Grant Devine was returned for a second term with a reduced majority in the legislature. While the New Democratic Party managed to increase its share of the popular vote and significantly increase its presence in the legislature, former Premier Allan Blakeney's attempt to return to power was unsuccessful. Despite winning slightly more votes than the Tories, most of the NDP margin was wasted on landslide margins in Regina and Saskatoon. While the NDP won eight seats in Regina and eight seats in Saskatoon, they only won nine seats in the rest of the province. As a result, they were consigned to Official Opposition status for another term.
