Metro (musical)
''Metro'' is a Polish musical with music by Janusz Stokłosa and lyrics by Agata and Maryna Miklaszewska. Choreographed and directed by Janusz Józefowicz, the musical was funded and initially produced by Wiktor Kubiak. The play, initially staged on January 31, 1991 in Warsaw's Dramatic Theatre, turned out to be a major success in Poland and is notable for a large number of young artists who started their career in its crew. Among those who rose to fame were: Edyta Górniak, Katarzyna Groniec, Robert Janowski, Michał Milowicz and Natasza Urbańska. In 1992 the musical opened on Broadway at the Minskoff Theatre, but soon closed due to unfavorable reviews. In 1997, the musical moved to Studio Buffo theatre in Warsaw, where it is still running in simplified arrangement after more than 2,100 performances in total. Janusz Stokłosa
Janusz Stokłosa (born 15 May 1954) is a Polish pianist and composer. He graduated from the Department of Theory and History of Music at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (1978). From 1984 to 1990 he was the musical director of Ateneum Theatre in Warsaw, where he co-starred musicals: ''Brel'', ''Hemar'', ''Wysocki'' with Wojciech Młynarski and Janusz Józefowicz. From 1986 to 1991 he worked with Michał Bajor. In 1991 he composed music for the musical ''Metro'', directed and choreographed by Janusz Józefowicz. The Tony Award for Best Original Score is the Tony Award given to the composers and lyricists of the best original score written for a musical theatre, musical or Play (theatre), play in that year. The score consists of music and/or lyrics. Minskoff Theatre
The Minskoff Theatre is a Broadway theater on the third floor of the One Astor Plaza office building in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Opened in 1973, it is operated by the Nederlander Organization and is named after Sam Minskoff and Sons, the building's developers. There are approximately 1,710 seats in the auditorium, spread across an orchestra level and a balcony. Over the years it has served as host to musicals, dance companies, and concerts. The Minskoff was designed by Kahn and Jacobs, who designed One Astor Plaza. It was one of the first theaters constructed under the Special Theater District amendment of 1967.
