Metal Mickey
Metal Mickey is a fictional five-foot-tall robot, as well as the name of a spin-off television show starring the same character. The robot character was created, controlled and voiced by Johnny Edward. The character of Metal Mickey first appeared on British television in the ITV children's magazine show '' The Saturday Banana'', produced by Southern Television in 1978. Humphrey Barclay saw Mickey on Jimmy Savile's ''Jim'll Fix It'' television show. Seeing the children chatting in the marketplace with the friendly robot led to the creation of the ''Metal Mickey'' television show. Within a month the pilot had been video-taped, and shortly after this the series went live with its first six episodes. 41 episodes were made in total, broadcast over three separate series between September 1980 and January 1983. ''Mork & Mindy'' is an American television sitcom that aired on ABC from September 14, 1978, to May 27, 1982. "Lollipop" is a pop song written by Julius Dixson and Beverly Ross in 1958. It was first recorded by the duo Ronald & Ruby – the writer of the song Ross herself was "Ruby". It was covered more successfully by The Chordettes whose version reached No. 2 in the US, and The Mudlarks in the UK. Origins The song originated when Julius Dixson was late for a songwriting session with Beverly Ross. He explained that his daughter had gotten a lollipop stuck in her hair, and that had caused him to be late. Ross was so inspired by the word "lollipop" that she sat down at the piano and produced a version of the song on the spot. Beverly Ross recorded a demo with Ronald Gumm (or Gumps), a 13-year-old neighbor of Dixson, under the name Ronald & Ruby. Gary Shail (born 10 November 1959) is an English actor, director, producer and musician. Career Gary Shail began work in TV and film in 1977 and is best known for his roles as Spider in the 1979 film ''Quadrophenia'' and as Steve, the punky teenager in '' The Metal Mickey TV Show''.
