Messapia, Greece
Messapia ( el, Μεσσάπια) is a former municipality in Euboea, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Dirfys-Messapia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 433.26 km2. Its name derives from the ancient river Messapios, which runs in the middle of the island. Population 13,327 (2011). Central Greece ( el, Περιφέρεια Στερεάς Ελλάδας, translit=Periféria Stereás Elládhas, , colloquially known as Ρούμελη (''Roúmeli'')) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. It consists of the islands of Euboea and Skyros, as well as a 260 km² area on the Greek mainland. Psachna ( el, Ψαχνά) is a small Greek town in Euboea, 16 km north of Chalcis. It is built in a small plain in the central-west part of the island. Psachna is the seat of Dirfys-Messapia municipality and the seat of Messapia regional unit. The town is also known for the Psachna campus of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the football team Iraklis Psachna. Its population is 5,827 residents according to 2011 census.
