Mervyn Cardoza
Mervyn Adrian Cardoza (1922 – 2010, Toronto) was a one star general in the Pakistan Army. In 1965 Brig. Mervyn Cardoza was awarded the Tamgha-e-Khidmat by President Ayub Khan. Background and family He was first educated at St Patrick's High School, Karachi. Cardoza attended St. George's College, Mussoorie from where he graduated in 1944. He had three sons, Chris, Bruce and Geof. He had nine grandchildren. Career Following graduation, he joined the Army, and at the time of partition opted to serve in the Pakistan Army. Ayub Khan (Field Marshal)
Muhammad Ayub Khan (Urdu: ; 14 May 1907 – 19 April 1974), was the second President of Pakistan. He was an army general who seized the presidency from Iskander Mirza in a coup in 1958, the first successful coup d'état in the country's history. Popular demonstrations and labour strikes supported by the protests in East Pakistan ultimately led to his forced resignation in 1969. During his presidency, differences between East and West Pakistan arose to an enormous degree, that ultimately led to the Independence of East Pakistan. Trained at the British Royal Military College, Ayub Khan fought in World War II as a colonel in the British Indian Army before deciding to transfer to the Pakistan Army in the aftermath of the partition of India in 1947. Tamgha-e-Khidmat
Tamgha-i-Khidmat or Tamgha-e-Khidmat ( ur, تمغہِ خدمت, literally "medal of services") is a Civilian and military award of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In Pakistan Army, it is applicable to junior commissioned officers, in addition to the Frontier Corps and the Frontier Constabulary. It is given to those Frontier Constabulary service personnel who are serving or has served under the federal government. This award is also given to chief petty officers of the navy, flight sergeants of the air force and non-commissioned officers with the equivalent ranks of the eligible forces such as land-based army, air force and navy. Also given below the rank of junior commissioned officers, Tamgha-i-Khidmat is usually awarded for rendering "long meritorious or distinguished service of a non-operational nature".
