Merritt is a city in the Nicola Valley of the south-central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is northeast of Vancouver. Situated at the confluence of the Nicola and Coldwater rivers, it is the first major community encountered after travelling along Phase One of the Coquihalla Highway and acts as the gateway to all other major highways to the B.C. Merritt (formerly, Meritt) is an unincorporated community in Yolo County, California. It lies at an elevation of 56 feet (17 m). The post office for the area was established in 1859 as "Meritt", and discontinued in 1860. It was reestablished and ran between 1870 and 1873 as "Merritt". It was named after Hiram P. Merritt who came to Yolo County before 1866. In the late 19th century, Merritt was a shipment point on the railroad for cattle to market. Merritt Township is a civil township of Bay County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The township's population was 1,441 as of the 2010 census. It is included in the Bay City Metropolitan Statistical Area.
