Merkaz Yael () is a community settlement (Israel), community settlement in the Ta'anakh region in northern Israel. It belongs to the Gilboa Regional Council. In it had a population of . History The village was founded in 1960 as part of the program to inhabit the Ta'anakh region. It formed a regional center for the nearby communities Prazon, Avital, and Meitav, Israel, Meitav. The name "Merkaz Yael" was inspired by Yael (Judges 4:17), the hero of the battle against Sisera in the Book of Judges and wife of Hever the Kenite, after whom another community settlement nearby is named (Merkaz Hever). This battle took place in the nearby region. Gilboa Regional Council
Gilboa Regional Council ( he, מועצה אזורית הגלבוע, ''Mo'atza Azorit (ha)Gilbo'a'') is a regional council in northern Israel, located on the slopes of the Gilboa mountain range. There are more than 22,000 residents in 38 settlements as of 2007. The size of the area is about 250,000 acres. It is bordered on the north and west by the Jezreel Valley and the Jezreel Valley Regional Council; on the east by the Beit She'an Valley and the Beit She'an Valley Regional Council, and on the south by the West Bank's Samarian mountains. History The Gilboa mountains that border the Jezreel Valley from the south and the Beit She'an Valley from the west form a part of the "water dividing line" of the land of Israel. In 1921, 75 men from Joseph Trumpeldor's work group built a tent camp near Ma'ayan Harod. Most of them were immigrants to Israel during the Second Aliyah, and some arrived in the Third Aliyah. A community settlement ( he, יישוב קהילתי, ''Yishuv Kehilati'') is a type of village in Israel and the West Bank. While in an ordinary town anyone may buy property, in a community settlement the village's residents are organized in a cooperative. They have the power to approve or veto a sale of a house or a business to any buyer. Residents of a community settlement may have a particular shared ideology, religious perspective, or desired lifestyle which they wish to perpetuate by accepting only like-minded individuals. For example, a family-oriented community settlement that wishes to avoid becoming a retirement community may choose to accept only young married couples as new residents. Ta'anakh
The Ta'anakh region ( he, חבל תענך, ''Hevel Ta'anakh''), also known as Ta'anachim ( he, תענכים), is an area to the south of Israel's Jezreel Valley and east of the Wadi Ara region. The area is named after the biblical city (Joshua 17:11), located just across the Green Line in the northwest West Bank. In the 1950s, the area was settled by immigrants from Morocco, Tunisia, Kurdistan, and Poland. Most or all of this region is located in the Gilboa Regional Council. Jael or Yael ( he, יָעֵל ''Yāʿēl'') is the name of the heroine who delivered Israel from the army of King Jabin of Canaan in the Book of Judges of the Hebrew Bible. After Barak demurred at the behest of the prophetess Deborah, God turned Sisera over to Jael, who killed him by driving a tent peg through his skull after he entered her tent near the great tree in Zaanannim near Kedesh. Sisera
Sisera ( he, סִיסְרָא ''Sîsərā'') was commander of the Canaanite army of King Jabin of Hazor, who is mentioned in of the Hebrew Bible. After being defeated by the forces of the Israelite tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali under the command of Barak and Deborah, Sisera was killed by Jael, who hammered a tent peg into his temple.
