Merited artist ('' vi, Nghệ sĩ Ưu tú'', also translated as Meritorious Artist, Deserved Artist, Distinguished Artist, Honoured Artist) is an honorary title awarded by the Vietnamese State to artists who have contributions to arts. This title is popular in the Soviet Union, Eastern Bloc. This title is lower than the title of People's Artist. An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating an art. The common usage in both everyday speech and academic discourse refers to a practitioner in the visual arts only.
