Merciful Release
Merciful Release is a record label started by Andrew Eldritch, frontman with Leeds band the Sisters of Mercy. As Eldritch stated in an early interview, he wanted to hear himself on the radio. He and Gary Marx (Mark Pairman) played and recorded on the Sisters of Mercy's initial single "Damage Done" and pressed one thousand copies. This record was something of a collector's item. Throughout the early 1980s, the band released several singles on Merciful Release, controlling the format and image of the records, typically in a black sleeve with artwork centrally mounted and a head and star logo on the rear of sleeves. A notable example of this being Henri Matisse's Blue Nude in gold on black for the single Alice. By 1984, the band had signed a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Vision Thing (album)
''Vision Thing'' is the third studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 22 October 1990 through Merciful Release and East West Records, with Elektra Records handling the US release. Recording Soon after the release of the band's previous album, '' Floodland'', Eldritch approached guitarist John Perry to join them on writing a new album. After Perry turned down the offer to become a full-time member, the band began to search for a new guitarist through their record label. Eventually, Eldritch was forwarded a demo tape by young and unknown Andreas Bruhn. Bruhn was called to audition a week after turning in his tape. As the band—now composed of Eldritch, Bruhn and bassist Patricia Morrison—was about to enter the studio, Morrison was abruptly replaced by the former Sigue Sigue Sputnik member Tony James. "More" is a song by The Sisters of Mercy, from their album '' Vision Thing''. It was the first single from the album, reaching number one on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart for five weeks, starting 15 December 1990. The song was co-written and co-produced by Andrew Eldritch and Jim Steinman. It was covered by Shaaman on their album ''Reason'', and Gregorian for their album '' The Dark Side''. Lucretia My Reflection
"Lucretia My Reflection" is a song by the English rock band the Sisters of Mercy. Released as the third and final single from their second studio album, '' Floodland'', in June 1988, it reached number 20 on the UK Singles Chart. Overview The song was written by Andrew Eldritch for the Sisters of Mercy bassist, Patricia Morrison, who, he said, "always strikes me as a Lucrezia orgiatype person". Its lyrics concern the fall of an empire, war and the consequent destruction of other aspects of life. Aside from the reference to Lucrezia Borgia, Lucretia was a Noble Roman woman, whose rape by Etruscan King Sextus Tarquinius, and subsequent suicide, triggered the collapse of the early Roman monarchy, leading to the Roman republic. "Dominion" is a song by English rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released as the second single from their second studio album, '' Floodland'', in February 1988. The version on ''Floodland'' features "Dominion" as well as a coda piece titled "Mother Russia". It was written by band frontman Andrew Eldritch and produced by Larry Alexander, Eldritch, and Jim Steinman. The song peaked at number 7 on the Irish Singles Chart, number 13 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 30 on the '' Billboard'' Dance Club Songs chart. Floodland (album)
''Floodland'' is the second studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 16 November 1987, through Merciful Release internationally and distributed by WEA, with Elektra Records handling the United States release. After the release of the band's debut studio album, '' First and Last and Always'' (1985), members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey left to form the Mission, causing the dissolution of the Sisters of Mercy. As a result, band frontman Andrew Eldritch formed a side project known as the Sisterhood, recording new material with them. After the project's first album was received negatively overall, he went back to recording as part of the Sisters of Mercy and hired the Sisterhood member Patricia Morrison for the recording of a new album. "This Corrosion" is a song by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy, released as the lead single from their second studio album, '' Floodland'' (1987), in September 1987. The song peaked at number 6 in Ireland, number 7 in the UK, and number 17 in Germany. Composition "This Corrosion" was written by Andrew Eldritch and produced by Jim Steinman, and is one of the band's most well-known songs. It uses a 40-piece choir, and the LP version of the song lasts for nearly 11 minutes (the single versions are substantially shorter). The Sisterhood was a musical project led by Andrew Eldritch. With guest musicians, the Sisterhood recorded songs he had originally intended for a second album by the Sisters of Mercy. Background After the March 1985 release of the first Sisters of Mercy album '' First and Last and Always'' the band prepared themselves for a follow-up.
