Rail transport in Costa Rica is primarily under the stewardship of Incofer (Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles), an autonomous institution of the state. Incofer owns the national railway infrastructure and operates virtually all freight and passenger services, which consist primarily of commuter trains through the highly populated Central Valley. The whole Incofer network is narrow gauge, although there are several small tourist railways of other gauges. Unfortunately, much of the railway system requires major repairs. Interurbano Line (Costa Rica)
Interurbano Line ( es, Tren Interurbano), is a commuter railway line in Costa Rica, operated by the national public railway operator Incofer. The line connects the provinces of Alajuela, Heredia, San José and Cartago. History Costa Rica had two main lines for freight and passenger transportation, the Pacific line (between San José and Puntarenas) and the Atlantic line (between Alajuela, through Heredia and San José to Limón), both of which converge in the San José canton, with the eponymous terminus station of each line a mere 2 kilometer apart, which are connected by rail. Between 1993 and 1995 a brief passenger service made use of the tracks, but it was not enough to keep Incofer working, as the institution have been running in a deficit for a long time, for which it was technically closed in 1995. National Secondary Route 126, or just Route 126 ( es, Ruta Nacional Secundaria 126, or ) is a National Road Route of Costa Rica, located in the Alajuela, Heredia provinces. It connects Route 3 and Route 4. Description Starting at the downtown area of Heredia canton, at Route 3, this road goes through Heredia, Barva, Carrizal, and Varablanca slightly following the province limit between Heredia and Alajuela, until arriving to Route 4 at Bajos de Chilamate in Sarapiquí. It allows access to the Poás Volcano National Park when driving from Heredia, by turning at Route 120.
