Meppel Railway Station
Meppel is a railway station in Meppel, Netherlands. The station opened on 1 October 1867 and is on the Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway and Meppel–Groningen railway. Train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. History The building was constructed in 1867 according to a standardised layout by the State Railways, namely the revised "third class". The classical design probably comes from Karel Hendrik van Brederode, who also designed several other models for the State Railways. Meppel station was renovated in 1982, which mainly involved the station's interior. It became a national heritage site on 28 January 1998. Keolis Nederland is a public transport company operating bus and passenger train services in the Netherlands. Originally created as Syntus and owned by Connexxion, Keolis and Nederlandse Spoorwegen, since 2012 Keolis Nederland has been a 100% subsidiary of Keolis. Syntus is an acronym for Synergy between Train and Bus. Connexxion is a large public transport company in the Netherlands, operating in the west, middle, east and southwest parts of the country. It is owned by Transdev and Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Netherlands. History Connexxion was formed on 10 May 1999 from a merger between transport companies NZH, ZWN, Midnet and Oostnet. Its name is a mutation of the French word connexion meaning connection. In January 2007, Connexxion took over Utrecht public transport operator GVU and Nijmegen operator Novio. A rijksmonument (, ) is a national heritage site of the Netherlands, listed by the agency Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) acting for the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. At the end of February 2015, the Netherlands had 61,822 listed national heritage sites, of which approximately 1,500 are listed as archaeological sites. Arnhem–Leeuwarden Railway
The Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway is a railway line in the Netherlands running from Arnhem to Leeuwarden, passing through Deventer, Zwolle and Heerenveen. It is also called the ''Staatslijn A'' ("state line A") in Dutch. The part between Arnhem and Zwolle is sometimes called the ''IJssellijn'' ("IJssel line"). History The line opened between 1865 and 1868. During the Second World War, the tracks between Deventer and Olst were removed by the German occupiers following the national railway strike from 1944 onwards. It had been a double-track section like the rest of the line, but was replaced post-war by a single track due to costs. Karel Hendrik Van Brederode
Karel Hendrik van Brederode (; 11 December 1827 – 19 September 1897) was a Dutch engineer and architect of railway stations. In 1847 he was cofounder of the in The Hague.
