Menzies is a suburb in the City of Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. In the , Menzies had a population of 985 people. Geography The Leichhard River flows north–south through the town of Mount Isa, dividing the suburbs of the town into "mineside" (west of the Leichhardt River) and "townside" (east of the Leichhardt River). Menzies is a "townside" suburb. History Menzies was named by the Queensland Place Names Board on 1 September 1973. On 16 March 2001 the status of Menzies was changed from a locality to a suburb. St Kieran's Christian Brothers College opened on 25 January 1960 with an initial enrolment of 132 boys in Years 4 to 7 with Brother Tom Higgins as the first principal. By 1967 the school had an enrolment of over 300 boys in Years 4 to 10. City Of Mount Isa
The City of Mount Isa is a local government area in north west Queensland. The City covers the urban locality of Mount Isa, the administrative centre, and surrounding area, sharing a boundary with the Northern Territory to the west. Mount Isa is a reasonably affluent district. The largest industry in the city is the Mount Isa Mines, a source of lead, copper, silver and zinc. Good Shepherd Catholic College, Mount Isa
Good Shepherd Catholic College is a Catholic systemic coeducational secondary day school, located in Menzies, Mount Isa Queensland, Australia. Good Shepherd Catholic College caters for students from Years 8 to 12, and is closely associated with Good Shepherd Parish, Mount Isa. The school comprises two former schools, Mount Isa Catholic High School and St Kieran's College. History In January 1960 three Christian Brothers opened St Kieran's. They had the care for the education of the Catholic boys of Mount Isa from Grades 5 to 10. In 1965 the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart opened San Jose College for girls. San Jose School educated girls until 1985 when it merged with Saint Kieran's College at St Kieran's site. The new co-educational school was named Mount Isa Catholic High School. The Leichhardt River is a river in north west Queensland, Australia. Course The source of the river is in the Selwyn Range under Rifle Creek Hill and fed by Rifle Creek approximately south of the mining town Mount Isa. It runs in a generally northerly direction almost parallel with the Diamantina Developmental Road until it reaches Mount Isa and crosses the Barkly Highway. It continues in a north easterly direction across the Gulf Country passing through Lake Moondarra past Glenroy Station then through Lake Julius. It then bears east then north again almost parallel with the Burke Developmental Road until crossing it near Nardoo. Traeger is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in the 2017 redistribution, and was named after Alfred Traeger, inventor of the pedal-powered radio, which was a significant contribution to people living in remote and rural communities in Queensland, such as those within Traeger. It takes in most of the urbanised portions of the abolished districts of Mount Isa and Dalrymple.
