Menus-Plaisirs
The Menus-Plaisirs du Roi () was, in the organisation of the French royal household under the Ancien Régime, the department of the Maison du Roi responsible for the "lesser pleasures of the King", which meant in practice that it was in charge of all the preparations for ceremonies, events and festivities, down to the last detail of design and order. Denis-Pierre-Jean Papillon De La Ferté
Denis-Pierre-Jean Papillon de la Ferté (Châlons-en-Champagne 17 February 1727 — Paris 7 July 1794) was a connoisseur of art and an administrator (an ''Intendant'' and from 1763 the sole ''Intendant'') of the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi, the organization in the royal household (the ''Maison du Roi'') that was responsible for the design and presentation of fêtes and ceremonies, weddings and funerals, at the court of France, beginning with his appointment in 1756. Even after the coming of the Revolution, he was retained until 1792, to oversee the more overtly Republican events of what had always been political as well as cultural statements ; in producing them, the conflicts among the dukes who were ''Gentilhommes de la Chambre'', to whom Papillon de la Ferté reported and among whom he served as diplomat and peacemaker, also played a role. Maison Du Roi
The Maison du Roi (, "King's Household") was the royal household of the King of France. It comprised the military, domestic, and religious entourage of the French royal family during the Ancien Régime and Bourbon Restoration. Organisation The exact composition and duties of its various divisions changed constantly over the Early Modern period. Jean Bérain The Elder
Jean Berain the Elder (1640 – 24 January 1711) was a draughtsman and designer, painter and engraver of ornament, the artistic force in the Royal office of the Menus-Plaisirs du Roi where all the designs originated for court spectacle, from fêtes to funerals, and many designs for furnishings not covered by the Bâtiments du Roi. The "Berainesque" style of light arabesques and playful grotesques was an essential element in the ''style Régence'' that led to the French Rocaille and European Rococo. Michel-Ange Challe
Charles-Michel-Ange Challe (born in Paris on 13 February 1718; died 8 January 1778) was a painter, draftsman and French architect. Having studied with François Boucher, Boucher and François Lemoyne, Le Moyne, he was one of the most appreciated painters of his time and enjoyed a huge success across Europe. His architectural drawings in the style of Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Piranesi contributed to his appointment in 1764 as Draftsman of the Chamber and the Cabinet of the King, charge for which he would produce many ephemeral architectures for parties and great royal funerals. Juste-Aurèle Meissonier (1695 – 31 July 1750) was a French goldsmith, sculptor, painter, architect, and furniture designer. He was born in Turin, but became known as a worker in Paris, where he died. Jean Bérain The Younger
Jean Bérain the Younger (1678 in Paris–1726 in Paris) was a French designer, and son of Jean Bérain the Elder. He was his father's pupil, and exercised the same official functions after his father's death.
