Memon People
The Memon are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group that originated in the Sindh region of Pakistan. The majority of the Memon people around the world follow the Hanafi fiqh of Sunni Islam. The Memon people have cultural similarities with the Khoja, Khatri (Vohra), and Gujarati peoples. Memon people speak the Memoni language as their first language. Some consider the Memon language to be a dialect of the Sindhi language. The Memon language shares vocabulary with the Sindhi language, Kutchi language and Gujarati language. Today, the Memon people are connected through globally recognized organisations such as the World Memon Organisation (WMO) and International Memon orgnisation (IMO). Memoni Language
Memoni (ميموني, મેમોની) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by Kathiawari Memons from the Kathiawar region of Gujarat, India. Memon people are a subgroup or an ethnic group that originated in north-western India. After the Indian partition in 1947, Memons of the Kathiawar region migrated to neighboring states, cities and towns within India, but a large number of Memons settled in Karachi, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and even United States and Canada. Saud Memon
Saud Memon (circa 1961 – 18 May 2007) was a Pakistani businessman from Karachi dealing in yarn and textiles. Memon was said to own the Al-Qaeda safe house in Karachi where American journalist Daniel Pearl was killed. Memon was wanted by law-enforcement agencies in the Pearl case for supposedly providing the place where Pearl was beheaded and subsequently buried. However, Memon was never formally charged. Marvi Memon ( ur, ; born 21 July 1972) is a Pakistani politician who recently served as Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme, from February 2015 until June 2018. She had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from March 2008 to June 2011 and again from June 2013 to May 2018. Nasir Memon is a computer scientist based in Brooklyn, New York. Memon is a professor and chair of the New York University Tandon School of Engineering computer science and engineering department and affiliate faculty at the computer science department in the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University. Ibrahim Mushtaq Abdul Razzaq Memon (born 24 November 1960), better known by the nickname Tiger Memon, is a gangster and terrorist, reputed to be one of the masterminds behind the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Sirajul Haq Memon (24 October 1933 – 2 February 2013) was a Pakistani Sindhi language novelist, journalist, historian, scholar, linguist, story-writer, and advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was born in Tando Jam town, Hyderabad District to school-teacher and poet Mohammad Yaqub Niaz in a house that would eventually have ten siblings, including renowned Sindhi scholar Dr Fahmida Hussain. Muhammad Umar Memon
Muhammad Umar Memon (Urdu: محمد عمر میمن) Professor Emeritus of Urdu Literature and Arabic Studies, (University of Wisconsin–Madison), Memon was an accomplished scholar, translator, Urdu Short Story writer, and the editor of ''The Annual of Urdu Studies''. Abdul Jalil Memon (born in Karachi, Pakistan 21 September 1970 - 28 December 2009) was an agriculturist by profession and an active politician from the District of Thatta, Province of Sindh, Pakistan. He and his family had strong affiliations with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He was the General Secretary of the PPP in district Thatta.
