Membor Gogoi
Membor Gogoi (1 October 1937 - 16 December 2016) was an Indian National Congress politician from Assam. He was a 3 time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly for Teok from 2001 to 2016. He also contested for the Teok seat in 1991 and 1996 but lost to the current MLA for Teok, Renupoma Rajkhowa. He was the brother in law of Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia. Early life Gogoi was born on 1 October 1937 to the late Jhanuram Gogoi and the late Mehmala Gogoi. He had a B.E.E. Political career Prior to his joining Congress party in 1988 Gogoi was working as a superintending engineer in Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB). Gogoi was the 1991 Indian National Congress choice for MLA for Teok. He lost to Renupoma Rajkhowa by 1550 votes. He was again the Indian National Congress choice for MLA for Teok in 1996 but he again lost to Renupoma Rajkhowa by 5540 votes. The Assam Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Assam. It is housed in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, geographically situated in present Western Assam region. In India, a chief minister is the elected head of government of each state out of the 28 states and sometimes a union territory (UT; currently, only the UTs of Delhi and Puducherry have serving chief ministers). According to the Constitution of India, the governor is a state's head, but ''de facto'' executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the State legislative assembly or Vidhan Sabha in a state, the state's governor usually invites the party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form the government. Ripun Bora is a leader of the All India Trinamool Congress party hailing from Assam. He is now serving as President of the Assam Trinamool Congress.
