Meløy
Meløy is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Salten traditional region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Ørnes. Other villages include Eidbukta, Neverdal, Glomfjord, Halsa, Reipå, Støtt, and Ågskardet. The municipality is situated just to the north of the Arctic Circle on Norway's west coast. It encompasses the island of Meløya and some 700 other islands of various sizes around the Meløyfjorden, Glomfjorden, and Holandsfjorden in the south, along with a stretch of mainland coast. The municipality is the 133rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Meløy is the 153rd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 6,214. Meløy Church
Meløy Church ( no, Meløy kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Meløy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Meløy on the island of Meløya. It is one of the churches for the ''Fore og Meløy'' parish which is part of the Bodø domprosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1867 using plans drawn up by the architects Håkon Mosling and Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. The church seats about 600 people, making it the second-largest wooden church in all of Northern Norway (after Vågan Church, the so-called ''Lofoten Cathedral''). Meløya
Meløya is an island in the municipality of Meløy in Nordland county, Norway. The island lies east of the island of Bolga, north of the island of Åmøya, and west of the island of Mesøya. The island is only accessible by boat, and there are regular ferry connections to the nearby villages of Bolga, Støtt, Vassdalsvik, and Ørnes. The island has a population (2017) of 215. The western part of the island is relatively flat and has many farms. The village of Meløy is located in this area and it is the main population centre on the island. Ågskardet is a village in the municipality of Meløy in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the southern side of the Holandsfjorden, about north of the village of Tjong (in neighboring Rødøy Municipality). There were 127 inhabitants in 2008. Glomfjord
Glomfjord is a village in the municipality of Meløy in Nordland county, Norway. The industrial community is located along Norwegian County Road 17 at the head of the Glomfjorden, just north of the Arctic Circle. The village has a population (2018) of 1,077 and a population density of . In 2020 Fykantrappa - a popular outdoor stairway, was permanently closed after being in operation since 1919. Heavy industry The village is based around the Glomfjord hydroelectric power plant, which was the target of the 1942 commando raid entitled Operation Musketoon. Salten is a traditional district in Nordland county, Norway. It includes the municipalities of Meløy, Gildeskål, Bodø, Beiarn, Saltdal, Fauske, Sørfold, Steigen, and Hamarøy. Salten covers an area of about and has a population (2016) of about 73,375 people. The district borders Helgeland in the south (see Saltfjellet), Ofoten in the north, Sweden in the east, and Vestfjorden (and Lofoten) in the west.
