Melvin John DeStigter (1928-2003) was a Republican member, assistant clerk, and clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives, totaling just over three decades of service to the chamber. Michigan's 95th State House District is a Michigan legislative district currently located in part of Gladwin County and all of Midland County. Previously, under the 2000 US Census, the 95th district was part of Saginaw County, and included the city of Saginaw, Buena Vista Township, Spaulding Township, and Bridgeport Township. As a result of decennial legislative redistricting, proceeding the findings of the 2010 US Census, the district boundaries will expand to include Carrollton Township, James Township, Kochville Township, and the city of Zilwaukee and Zilwaukee Township. Hudsonville, Michigan
Hudsonville is a city in Ottawa County in the U.S. state of Michigan, and is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. The population was 7,116 at the 2010 census. Hudsonville is nicknamed "Michigan's Salad Bowl." History Hudsonville was platted in 1873, soon after the Chicago and West Michigan Railway was extended to that point. The town was named for Homer E. Hudson, a pioneer settler, who was also the town's first postmaster. The early settlement of Hudsonville was next to a swamp, which hampered early development. Jim Dressel
Captain James K. Dressel (October 14, 1943 – March 24, 1992) was an Air Force pilot, and a Michigan politician in the 1970s and early 1980s. Although he was a conservative Republican, in 1983 he co-sponsored the state's first bill to protect gay and lesbian people from discrimination in employment and housing. He was profiled in Randy Shilts' book ''Conduct Unbecoming'' in the chapter "Heroes". Biography Dressel was born in Holland, Michigan, to German and Dutch parents, and raised in the United Methodist Church. He graduated from Hope College in 1967, then enlisted in the air force. Beginning in 1970, he served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War, piloting fighter jets and bombing enemy supply runs from a base in Thailand, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and other decorations.
