Melpomeni Çobani

She has starred in films such as ''Tana'' (1958), ''Estrada në ekran'' (1968) and ''Kapedani'' (1972). Biography Çobani was born Melpomeni Mihal Çubonja in the Kavaja Street of Tirana. Due to her involvement with the Albanian resistance at an early age, her last name was changed to Çobani to avoid an imminent arrest from the German authorities. Soon after she passed in illegally and joined the ranks of the partisans. After the end of World War II, she started with the amateur theatrical group of Tirana, while working at the "Mihal Duri" establishment. Tirana
Tirana ( , ; aln, Tirona) is the capital and largest city of Albania. It is located in the centre of the country, enclosed by mountains and hills with Dajti rising to the east and a slight valley to the northwest overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance. People's Artist Of Albania
The People's Artist () was an honorary title for outstanding art performers of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania, whose merits were exceptional in the sphere of development of the performing arts (theatre, music, cinema and art). It was created by law in 1960 and amended in 1980. The title is no longer given in Albania after the law was amended in 1996. The equivalent of it became the "Grand Master of Work" title, that was also substituted with the "Grand Master" title after a 2001 amendment of the 1996 law. Tana (film)
''Tana'' is an Albanian feature film, produced by the "New Albania" Film Studio ( sq, Kinostudio "Shqipëria e Re"). The movie premiered on 17 August 1958. The film was directed by Kristaq Dhamo, and written by Kristaq Dhamo, Fatmir Gjata, and Nasho Jorgaqi. The music was also composed by Çesk Zadeja. The film was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival. The film is often cited as the first feature length film produced fully in Albania. Plot The film is based on Fatmir Gjata's screenplay. Gjata had written a novel with the same title earlier. The events evolve in the 1950s. The main character, Tana, is a smart, outgoing and progressive young woman. She is in love with Stefan (Naim Frashëri) and they both live in an unnamed mountain village in Albania. Albanian Resistance
In Albania, World War II began with its invasion by Italy in April 1939. Fascist Italy set up Albania as its protectorate or puppet state. The resistance was largely carried out by Communist groups against the Italian (until 1943) and then German occupation in Albania. At first independent, the Communist groups united in the beginning of 1942, which ultimately led to the successful liberation of the country in 1944. The Center for Relief to Civilian Populations (Geneva) reported that Albania was one of the most devastated countries in Europe. 60,000 houses were destroyed and about 10% of the population was left homeless. The German occupation of Albania occurred between 1943 and 1944 during World War II. Qazim Mulleti
Qazim Mulleti (1893–1956) was an Albanian politician, nationalist and mayor of Tirana from 1939 through 1940 and its prefect from 1942 to 1944. Life Early life Qazim Mulleti was born in "Sulejman Pasha" (Mulleti) neighborhood, in Tirana, Albania, Ottoman Empire on December 20, 1893. He had taken first studies in Monastir, continued at Zosimea gymnasium in Yannina, and later conducted studies at Galatasaray Mekteb-i Sultanisi in Istanbul, with the gold medal. He was a polyglot. Mulleti knew Turkish, Arabic, German, French, Italian, Latin, Greek, and Serbo-Croatian. Agim Qirjaqi (27 January 1950 – 28 March 2010) was an Albanian actor and television director. As an actor his filmography was extensive, while as a director his output was limited to some television work. He worked with a number of prominent Albanian directors, including Dhimitër Anagnosti and Gjergj Xhuvani. For his role in the film ''Lulekuqet mbi Mure'' he won the Best Actor prize in the Festival of Cinematography of Albania in 1977.
