Mellieħa S.C.
Mellieħa Sports Club is a Maltese sports club based in the town of Mellieħa. Founded in 1947, just after the end of the Second World War, the primary aim was that of promoting and fostering the development of sports in the village and its surroundings, including football, baseball (Mellieħa Northenders), softball (Mellieħa Curves), netball and snooker. Mellieħa S.C. began as a football club in 1947 and has competed ever since. Their most notable achievement happened in 1992 when they finished runners-up in the Maltese First Division, which earned them a promotion to the Premier League, the top-tier in Maltese football. For the 2020–21 season, they competed in the National Amateur League, finishing 4th in group A before being knocked out in the first round of the promotion play-offs. Maltese National Amateur League
The Maltese National Amateur League (referred to as the IZIBet Amateur League for sponsorship reasons) is the third-highest division in Maltese football, replacing the Maltese Second Division and Maltese Third Division during the 2020–21 season following the premature end of the previous football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Following the merger of the Maltese Second and Third Divisions the league is made up of two groups. Over the course of the season, each team plays twice against the others in their group. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the table by: # Total points gained In the need of a tie-breaker, a play-off game is played. The Malta Football Association (MFA; mt, Assoċjazzjoni tal-Futbol ta' Malta) is the governing body of football in Malta.
