''Melee'' is the only studio album by American post-hardcore band, Dogleg. The album was released on March 13, 2020 through Triple Crown Records. Two singles were released prior to the album's release: "Fox" in late 2019, and "Kawasaki Backflip" in early 2020. The album was met with critical acclaim, with critics praising the album's ambitious sound, energy, and cultural relevance. Background Following the release of their last extended play, '' Remember Alderaan?'', Dogleg began extensively touring across their home state of Michigan and across the American Midwest in promotion of their first two EPs. The success and local popularity of the band caught the attention of South by Southwest, who recruited the band to perform at 2018 SXSW. Dogleg was an American post-hardcore band formed in Detroit, Michigan in 2015. They released their debut album, ''Melee'' in 2020 to critical acclaim. The band is fronted by Alex Stoitsiadis as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, with Chase Macinski on bass, Parker Grissom on guitar, and Jacob Hanlon on drums. Melodic hardcore is a broadly defined subgenre of hardcore punk with a strong emphasis on melody in its guitar work. It generally incorporates fast rhythms, melodic and often distorted guitar riffs, and vocal styles tending towards shouting and screaming. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. South By Southwest
South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and Convention (meeting), conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2017, the conference lasted for 10 days with the interactive track lasting for five days, music for seven days, and film for nine days. There was no in-person event in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Austin, Texas; both years, there was a smaller online event instead. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999.
