Melarcode is a village and Gram Panchayat in Palakkad District, Kerala, South India. "Mayilattoor" was the former name of Melarcode ("Mayil" meaning Peafowl, peacock), probably due to the presence of many peacocks in the village. Melarcode has a developed cultural background. Melarcode has produced many fine artists in the field of Carnatic music, Carnatic Music and Namasankeetanam, Namasankeerthanam like Melarcode Vaidhyanathan (Vaithy) Bhagavathar and Melarcode Ravi Bhagavathar. Chittilamchery (also known as Chittlancherry or Chittalancheri) () is a village in the Palakkad district of Kerala located in Vadakkanchery - Kollengode main road.It is under the administration of the Melarcode Panchayath in the Alathur Taluk. Peafowl
Peafowl is a common name for three bird species in the genera '' Pavo'' and ''Afropavo'' within the tribe Pavonini of the family Phasianidae, the pheasants and their allies. Male peafowl are referred to as peacocks, and female peafowl are referred to as peahens, although peafowl of either sex are often referred to colloquially as "peacocks."
