Mel Villena
Mel Villena is a Filipino musician, composer and musical director who has worked with various artists such as Sharon Cuneta, Pops Fernandez, Martin Nievera, Lea Salonga, The Company, and Mitch Valdez. He was also the musical director of Associated Broadcasting Company's (ABC) Philippine Idol. Aside from Philippine Idol, he appeared in numerous reality talent shows such as ABS-CBN's ''Star in a Million'' and guested on children's television series ''Batibot'', in which he arranged the show's theme song. During his high school days, he was a member of the Kundirana choir of the La Salle Greenhills school. He got his education at the University of the Philippines College of Music and refined his skills along its halls. ''The Singing Bee'' is a Philippine karaoke game show premiered on April 21, 2008 on ABS-CBN. It is based on the American version of the same name. A combinination of karaoke singing and a spelling bee-style competition, this show features contestants trying to remember the lyrics to popular songs. In each episode, six contestants will be selected from the audience to play a series of games that test their knowledge of song lyrics. Contestants making an error forfeit their chance to get into the "musical chairs". Contestants not in a musical chair position when the round is over are eliminated. The grand prize is P1,000,000.
