Megan Tandy
Megan Tandy (formerly Megan Heinicke; born 10 September 1988) is a Canadian biathlete. Career Tandy was raised in Prince George, British Columbia. She competed at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in the women's sprint (7.5 km), pursuit (10 km), mass start (12.5 km) and individual (15 km) competitions. She placed 46th in the sprint on 13 February 2010 with a time of 22:07.7 and no penalties, resulting in a +2:12.1 deficit. In the pursuit on 16 February, she placed 36th with a time of 34:02.2 with one penalty, resulting in a +3:46.2 deficit. Along with Canadian biathletes Zina Kocher, Sandra Keith, Rosanna Crawford, and Megan Imrie, she posed for the Bold Beautiful Biathlon calendar to raise money to cover annual expenses for training and competition. The 49th Biathlon World Championships was held from 9 to 19 February 2017 in Hochfilzen, Austria. There were a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and mixed relay. All the events during this championships also count for the Biathlon World Cup season. Host selection The second candidate city was Östersund, Sweden. Hochfilzen was selected as the host city on September 2 2012 during the X IBU Congress in Merano, Italy (27 to 20 votes). Biathlon at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. There were eleven events contested: men and women competed in each of sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay; there was also a mixed relay event. The eleven events were scheduled to take place between 9 and 23 February 2018. Qualification A total of 230 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games (115 men and 115 women). International Biathlon Union
The International Biathlon Union (IBU; german: Internationale Biathlon-Union) is the international governing body of biathlon. Its headquarters were in Salzburg, Austria, until May 2020, when the Federation moved to Anif, on the outskirts of the city. The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC; french: Comité olympique canadien) is a private, non-profit organization that represents Canada at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
