Meera Sanyal
Meera Sanyal (née Hiranandani; 15 October 1961 – 11 January 2019) was an Indian banker and politician. She served as CEO and chairperson of the Royal Bank of Scotland in India. The daughter of a highly decorated Naval officer, Vice Admiral Gulab Mohanlal Hiranandani, she was involved in banking for over 30 years before stepping down from RBS to stand as the Aam Aadmi Party candidate in South Mumbai in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, which she lost. She had earlier contested as an independent candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai South constituency. She served on the board of Pradan, an Indian NGO that works to empower women through entrepreneurship and on the international board of Right to Play, a global organisation that has helped over 1 million children through the transformative power of play. The Royal Bank of Scotland plc (RBS; gd, Banca Rìoghail na h-Alba) is a major retail and commercial bank in Scotland. Milind Deora (born 4 December 1976) is an Indian politician and former Union Minister of State (MoS) for Communications & Information Technology and Shipping. He was a Member of the 15th Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament of India, from the Mumbai South constituency and also President of Mumbai regional congress committee. He currently serves as a member of Dean’s Advisory Board at Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies in Boston University. Deora was one of the youngest members of the 15th Lok Sabha. Arvind Ganpat Sawant (born 31 December 1951) is an Indian politician from the Shiv Sena party. He had been the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises since 2019 and a Member of Lok Sabha since 2014. On 11 November 2019, Sawant quit as union minister in Modi government due to ongoing power tussle between Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena in follow up to 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election. 2014 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014 to elect the members of the 16th Lok Sabha. With 834 million registered voters, they were the largest-ever elections in the world until being surpassed by the 2019 Indian general election, 2019 elections. Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18–19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested the 543 elected Lok Sabha seats. The average election turnout over all nine phases was around 66.40%, the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections. The results were declared on 16 May, 15 days before the 15th Lok Sabha completed its constitutional mandate on 31 May 2014. The counting exercise was held at 989 counting centres. 2008 Mumbai Attacks
The 2008 Mumbai attacks (also referred to as 26/11, pronounced "twenty six eleven") were a series of Terrorism, terrorist attacks that took place in November 2008, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, an Islamist terrorist organisation from Pakistan, carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai.
