Media Of Puerto Rico
The media of Puerto Rico includes local radio stations, television stations and newspapers; for the majority of all these the language is Spanish. There are also three stations of the US Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. Newspapers Magazines Radio stations Radio transmission first began in Puerto Rico on December 3, 1922 with WKAQ (AM), making it the first radio broadcasting station on the island and the fifth in the world. Its purpose was to transmit news and weather updates with commercials. By 1937, the advertising industry had entered radio on the Island; and by the year 1942, there were five radio broadcasting stations in Puerto Rico. These five stations were based in San Juan, Ponce and Mayagüez. There are currently over one hundred and forty radio stations being broadcast in Puerto Rico as of March 1st, 2019. Radio Stations
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio signal, audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. ''Teve Guía'' was a Puerto Rican gossip and listings magazine. The magazine was established by Mario Prévidi and Juan Ortiz Jiménez in 1962. ''Teve Guía'' was written in association with the United States magazine, ''TV Guide'', but had a slightly different format. The publisher of ''Teve Guía'' was Agencia de Publicaciones. Apart from offering daily programming information, ''Teve Guía'' also published interviews with entertainers, both from Puerto Rico and on the international scene, and gossip sections. Another section, ''Querida Aurora'', was a ''Dear Abby'' style column, dedicated to counseling readers who write in seeking advice. WBYM (1560 AM, Pura Palabra Radio) is a radio station broadcasting a Contemporary Christian format. licensed to serve Bayamón, Puerto Rico, The station is owned by Pura Palabra Media Group. WBQN
WBQN (680 AM) is a radio station licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, broadcasting a news-talk format. The station serves as the flagship station of the Borinquen Radio News Network and is owned by Wifredo G. Blanco-Pi (d/b/a Grupo AM Puerto Rico). It is an affiliate of CNN en Español radio news network. The station is rebroadcast by translator station W237FF 95.3 FM also located in San Juan. The station was relayed through an experimental synchronous station, WA2XPA Arecibo, which also broadcasts on 680 kHz. On April 19, 2017 the Federal Communications Commission ruled that WA2XPA's license will not be renewed. The ruling stated that it must discontinue operation on May 7, 2017 and the license would be cancelled on May 8, 2017. WBMJ (1190 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Religious format. Licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, it serves the Puerto Rico area. The station is currently owned by Calvary Evangelistic Mission, Inc. and features programming from Salem Communications. WBMJ's programming is also heard on translator station W258DT 99.5 FM, also licensed to San Juan. WBMJ is one of three AM stations that comprise The Rock Radio Network.
