Owensboro is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Daviess County, Kentucky, United States. It is the fourth-largest city in the state by population. Owensboro is located on U.S. Route 60 and Interstate 165 about southwest of Louisville, and is the principal city of the Owensboro metropolitan area. The 2020 census had its population at 60,183. Daviess County ( "Davis"), is a county in Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 103,312. Its county seat is Owensboro. The county was formed from part of Ohio County on January 14, 1815. Daviess County is included in the Owensboro, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Daviess County also shares its namesake with another nearby Daviess County of Indiana. Both Counties are in the Illinois-Indiana-Kentucky Tri-State Area. Rumsey, Kentucky
Rumsey is an unincorporated community in McLean County, Kentucky, United States. History Rumsey had its start in the 1830s when a lock and dam was built at that point on the Green River. Rumsey was incorporated in 1839. It is named either for Kentucky Congressman Edward Rumsey or his uncle, James Rumsey, who invented the steamboat. Historian Otto Rothert records that the most commonly accepted explanation is that the community's citizens wanted to name it in honor of Edward Rumsey, but Rumsey declined their offer out of modesty, whereupon they compromised by retaining the name "Rumsey" and declaring it to be in honor of his uncle, James. Island is a home rule-class city in McLean County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 458 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Owensboro metropolitan area. History The city is named for Judge William Worthington's early 19th-century 8-square mile estate, known as The Island from the way high tide on the Green and other nearby rivers would maroon it from adjacent land.
