The Ulster Scots ( Ulster-Scots: ''Ulstèr-Scotch''; ga, Albanaigh Ultach), also called Ulster Scots people (''Ulstèr-Scotch fowk'') or (in North America) Scotch-Irish (''Scotch-Airisch''), are an ethnic group in Ireland, who speak an Ulster Scots dialect of the Scots language, a West Germanic language, and share a common history, culture and ancestry. As an ethnicity, they diverged from largely the same ancestors as those of modern English people, and Lowland Scots people, native to Northern England, and Lowland Scotland, respectively. Found mostly in the province of Ulster, and to a lesser extent in the rest of Ireland, their ancestors were Protestant, mainly Presbyterian, settlers who migrated from the Scottish Lowlands and Northern England during the Plantation of Ulster. Dodge Macknight (''né'' William Dodge MacKnight; 1 October 1860 Providence, Rhode Island – 23 May 1950 East Sandwich, Massachusetts) was an American painter. Career MacKnight's work falls under the post-Impressionism, an art movement that succeeded the nineteenth-century impressionism. McKnight made the major part of his career watercolors. His colorful works were appreciated by amateurs in Boston, who were receptive to impressionist aesthetics. He painted mostly landscapes and was considered as the equal of John Singer Sargent. MacKnight lived in Fontvieille at the time when Vincent van Gogh was living in Arles. In 1888, they met through John Russell. Diane McKnight (born March 22, 1953) is a professor of civil, environmental, and architectural engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder and a fellow at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR). Denyss McKnight (born January 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian musician. Biography McKnight spent much of his early years being classically trained on piano and music theory. After relocating to the British Columbia Interior as a teenager, he started playing guitar and started several punk and hardcore bands while working as production manager for local all-ages venues. In 2002, McKnight formed 9 Lashings Records and independently engineered and produced several releases for other bands, including the hardcore act Until We Have Faces which he joined as guitarist until 2004. 2005 marked his introduction into the Vancouver Glam punk band The Black Halos, for which he played bass, including on their 2005 album ''Alive Without Control''. Harmar Denny McKnight (April 29, 1848 – May 5, 1900) was an early baseball manager and executive. On October 15, he founded the Allegheny Base Ball Club of Pittsburgh in anticipation of playing in the new American Association. The club then became known as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys (now known as the Pittsburgh Pirates). Biography Personal life Denny was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. David McKnight (4 March 1935 – 14 May 2006) was a Canadian-British anthropologist and ethnographer who specialized in the anthropology of Australian Aboriginal people, with particular regard to the tribes of the Cape York Peninsula. He conducted over 20 field trips among Aboriginal people in Australia from 1965 to 1999. Life McKnight was born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1935. He completed his B.A. in both English Lit and Philosophy Bishop's University in Quebec in 1957.
