Fredrick McGhee
Fredrick Lamar McGhee (October 28, 1861 – September 9, 1912) was an African-American criminal defense lawyer and civil rights activist. Born a slave in Mississippi, McGhee would become the first black attorney in Minnesota. Alongside close friend and collaborator of W. E. B. Du Bois, McGhee would leave the National Afro-American Council to help co-found the Niagara Movement. McGhee has been noted as one of the first prominent Black supporters of the Democratic Party at a time when Black voters overwhelmingly supported the Republican Party. McGhee was a vocal supporter of William Jennings Bryan in the 1900 presidential election, and spoke out against Republican William McKinley's support for imperialism. McGhee is also noted for being a convert to Catholicism in a time when African Americans were overwhelmingly Protestant. Walter Brown "Brownie" McGhee (November 30, 1915 – February 16, 1996) was an American folk music and Piedmont blues singer and guitarist, best known for his collaboration with the harmonica player Sonny Terry. Life and career McGhee was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. At about the age of four he contracted polio, which incapacitated his right leg. He was known for his fast fingering and high notes. He had an influence on younger bebop trumpeters such as Fats Navarro. Joseph McGhee (9 July 1929 – 17 April 2015) was a Scottish marathon runner, who won a gold medal at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver, Canada. Career McGhee was a member of Shettleston Harriers athletics club, and also the Glasgow University Hares and Hounds. James McGhee
James McGhee (2 April 1862 in Lugar, Ayrshire – 30 July 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hibernian and Celtic, and later became a manager with Hibernian's city rivals Heart of Midlothian. Playing career McGhee began his career in his native Ayrshire with Cronberry in 1878 and then Boswell Thistle two years later before moving to Edinburgh side Hibernian in 1883.
