''Mayura'' is a major Kannada monthly literary magazine, published in Karnataka, India, which has its headquarters in Mysuru, Karnataka. It is also published from Davangere, Gulbarga, Mangaluru, Hubli, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. ''Deccan Herald'' is an Indian English language daily newspaper published from the Indian state of Karnataka. It was founded by K. N. Guruswamy, a liquor businessman from Ballari and was launched on 17 June 1948. It is published by The Printers Mysore, a privately held company owned by the Nettakallappa family, heirs of Guruswamy. Lanard Dsouza ( kn, ಲೇನಾರ್ಡ್; born 6 June 1937) is a novelist and writer in Kannada language living in Sagara, Karnataka, India. He was selected as the President of 80th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Madikeri in the year 2014. Personal life Na D'Souza was born in Sagara, Karnataka on 6 June 1937. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar is an Indian director, actor, screenwriter and a lyricist who predominantly works in Kannada film industry, Kannada Cinema. He made his film debut as a screenplay writer in ''Kadina Benki'' (1986) which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and the Karnataka State Film Awards, Karnataka State Award. His directorial debut was ''Undu Hoda Kondu Hoda'' (1991) for which he won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Story. Rayasam Bheemasena Rao (known by his pen name BeeChi) (1913–1980) was a well-known humorist in the Kannada language. He preferred to write his pen name bilingually as ಬೀchi giving first preference to Kannada than English. He was also known as Karnataka's George Bernard Shaw. Baraguru Ramachandrappa
Baraguru Ramachandrappa (born 18 October 1947) is an Indian essayist, lyricist, screenwriter, film director, socialist, writer, novelist, predominantly works in Kannada language and President of the Textbook Revision Committee, in Karnataka Text Books Society (''KTBS'') from May 2015. In 2008, he was given an honorary doctorate by the Kuvempu University and Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, Karnataka. Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi
Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi (born 1951) is an Indian short story writer, novelist, playwright and scriptwriter. He writes in the Kannada language. He is the first Indian writer to introduce Muslim ethos and culture into creative Kannada prose. He is the only Indian writer conferred with Central Sahitya Academy twice for creative prose. Jayanth Kaikini (born 24 January 1955) is a poet, short story writer, playwright, columnist in Kannada and a lyricist in Kannada Cinema. Anupama Niranjana
Anupama Niranjana ( kn, ಅನುಪಮಾ ನಿರಂಜನ) (1934–1991) was a doctor in India and writer of modern Kannada fiction and non-fiction. She advocated the woman's point of view and was one among such writers in Kannada, which includes others like Triveni and M. K. Indira. Her novel Runamuktalu was made into a film by Puttanna Kanagal. Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar
Goruru Ramaswamy Iyengar (1904–1991), popularly known as Goruru, was an Indian writer who wrote in Kannada. He was well known for his humour and satire. Early life Goruru Ramaswami Iyengar was born at "Goruru" in Hassan district of Karnataka in 1904. His father was Srinivas Iyengar and his mother Lakshamma. Career Goruru Ramaswami Iyengar was influenced by Indian Independence Movement and became a staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He was jailed by the British administration in 1942 for 2 months for his participation in the Quit India Movement and in 1947. His son Ramachandra became a martyr for the same cause in 1947.
