Mayric's
Mayric's was a concert events venue in Manila that featured new and upcoming artists in the Philippine music scene since the early 80s. It helped launch the career of many Filipino artists or, at the least, served as a regular venues for their live performances. Those artists included The Dawn (band), Eraserheads, Half Life Half Death, The Jerks, Sandwich (band), Slapshock, Sugar Hiccup, Yano Yano is a Filipino folk/ punk rock band formed in 1993. The band members were originally composed of Dong Abay on vocals and Eric Gancio on guitar. Onie Badiang later joined them to play bass. The Jerks
The Jerks is a rock band from the Philippines formed in 1979, and perhaps, is the original alternative rock and blues band in the country. The band has undergone a lot of member changes and notably a lot of the previous members of the band are now certified icons themselves in the music scene. Members like Chickoy Pura, Nitoy Adriano, Jun Lopito, Angelo Villegas, and others have carved names in their respective niches. Other performers who have played with the Jerks are former Put3ska drummer Brutus Lacano as a session musician, and drummer Benjie Santos. Despite having been formed in 1979, they only released their debut record in 1994 entitled ''The Jerks Live'', released under Gary Granada's Backdoor Records. Slapshock
Slapshock was a Filipino heavy metal band from Metro Manila. They were formed in 1997, originally as a nu metal act, with their early musical style compared to that of Korn. They later shifted towards a metalcore style. Background The group was formed on February 14, 1997, by several students at UP Diliman, with original vocalist Reynold Munsayac; he was soon replaced with guitarist Jerry Basco's cousin Jamir Garcia. Slapshockat Allmusic Heavily influenced by American East Coast rap, they played in clubs in Manila in the 1990s. The Youth (band)
The Youth is a Filipino rock band. Their music is a mixture of punk, post-punk and alternative rock, influenced heavily by Wuds, a pioneering Filipino punk band. Early years First, it was called “Boyish Day”; the band was formed in 1989 composed of Dodong Cruz (Bass/Backup vocals), Erap Carrasco (Drums), Pat Mabingnay (lead guitars) and Zaldy Carrasco (Lead singer). They played music suitable during the time: New wave, alternative and punk music, which were common on the radio station (Capital Radio's) XB 102. The station saw the origins of what would be one of the most famous local acts of the early 1990s. Due to musical differences, the group separated and formed other groups. The Dawn (band)
The Dawn is a Filipino rock band which first achieved commercial success during the late 1980s in the Philippines. The band broke up in 1995 with lead vocalist Jett Pangan forming another band, the Jett Pangan Group. The Dawn reunited in late 1999. The Dawn is considered the "longest-lived and most prolific rock band in the Philippines". Eraserheads (sometimes stylized as ERASƎRHEADS or ƎRASƎRHƎADS) are a Filipino alternative rock band formed in 1989. Sandwich (stylized as <S>andwich in earlier releases) is a Filipino alternative rock band from the Philippines. The band consists of lead vocalist Raymund Marasigan, guitarists and backing vocalists Diego Castillo and Mong Alcaraz, bassist Myrene Academia and drummer Mike Dizon. Yano
Yano is a Filipino folk/ punk rock band formed in 1993. The band members were originally composed of Dong Abay on vocals and Eric Gancio on guitar. Onie Badiang later joined them to play bass. Nowie Favila was the usual drummer but declined to join the group due to commitments with Ang Grupong Pendong. Other drummers of the band included Nonong Timbalopez, Harley Alarcon and Jun Nogoy. The band got their name when Abay looked through an entry in "''Talahulugang Pilipino''", an old Tagalog dictionary. "Yano" in Tagalog means "simple", a term often used by Tagalog speakers in the province of Quezon. The group disbanded in 1997 after Abay left the band. Eric Gancio reformed Yano in 2007.
