Maybank Championship Malaysia
The Maybank Championship was a professional golf tournament, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour, that was played annually in Malaysia. The tournament was founded in 2016 by sponsors Maybank, who had previously sponsored the Malaysian Open (golf), Malaysian Open, with the inaugural tournament played from 18–21 February at Royal Selangor Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur. It had a purse of United States dollar, US$3,000,000. Since 2017 the Maybank Championship was played at Saujana Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur. Lee Soo-min (golfer)
Lee Soo-min ( ko, 이수민; born 12 October 1993) is a South Korean professional golfer. Lee won the 2013 Gunsan CC Open on the Korean Tour while still an amateur. He turned professional in 2014 and began playing regularly on the Korean Tour, winning the Gunsan CC Open again in 2015. He earned a 2015 Asian Tour card through qualifying school; as a rookie, he recorded two top-three finishes and placed 29th on the Order of Merit. In February 2016 Lee was joint runner-up in the Maybank Championship Malaysia, an event co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour. In April he won the European Tour's Shenzhen International on a sponsor exemption, giving him full European Tour membership. Marcus Fraser (golfer)
Marcus Fraser (born 26 July 1978) is an Australian professional golfer who plays on the European Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia and Asian Tour. Career Born in Corowa, New South Wales, Fraser spent his early years working at a supermarket. He completed a distinguished amateur career in 2002, finishing as the top individual in the Eisenhower Trophy world teams event. He turned professional in 2002 and completed his first seasons playing on Europe's second tier Challenge Tour. In 2003, he won three tournaments in one month, the Danish Open, the Talma Finnish Challenge and the Russian Open, which was also a European Tour event. The last of those wins secured his card on the European Tour for 2004. He has maintained his playing status since by consistently finishing inside the top 120 on the Order of Merit, with a best of 25th place in 2012. 2016 European Tour
The 2016 European Tour was the eighth edition of the Race to Dubai and the 45th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The Race to Dubai was won for the second time by Sweden's Henrik Stenson, who was also named Golfer of the Year. The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year was Wang Jeung-hun from South Korea. Rule changes For the 2016 season, the European Tour modified its membership requirements from 13 tournaments inclusive of the four majors and four World Golf Championships, to 5 tournaments exclusive of them; the change was intended to make it easier for United States-based players outside the top-50 in the world rankings to retain their membership, as they may not be eligible for the majors and WGCs. David Lipsky (golfer)
David Lipsky (born July 14, 1988) is an American professional golfer. Lipsky played college golf at Northwestern University where he was an All-American and won the 2010 Big Ten individual championship. Lipsky turned professional after graduating in 2011. He joined the Asian Tour in 2012 and won the Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic in his third start on the tour. In 2014 he won the Omega European Masters, a European Tour event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour; he went on to win the 2014 Asian Tour Order of Merit. Since that victory, he has competed predominantly on the European Tour and won for the second time at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in 2018. He has also played on the second-tier Korn Ferry Tour in the United States, winning once. Fabrizio Zanotti (born 21 May 1983) is a Paraguayan professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Early life Zanotti was born in Asunción. He was Paraguay's top ranked amateur golfer for six straight years. Professional career Zanotti turned professional in 2003. In 2006 Zanotti won the Tour de las Americas Order of Merit with victory at the final event of the season, the Abierto Mexicano Corona. The tournament was also the second event on the 2007 Challenge Tour schedule, and the win enabled him to join the tour for the remainder of the season. He ended the season in 11th place on the Challenge Tour Rankings to graduate to the top level European Tour for 2008. Jorge Campillo (golfer)
Jorge Campillo (born 1 June 1986) is a Spanish professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. He has won on the tour, the 2019 Trophée Hassan II and the 2020 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Amateur career After attending the Spanish national training centre as a junior, Campillo elected to play college golf at Indiana University in the United States. Campillo would go on to become one of the most successful players in the university's history, winning nine intercollegiate titles and being named to the Golfweek First Team All-American squad. He finished second in the 2008 NCAA championship. He also played in the Palmer Cup for Europe in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The 2018 European Tour is the 47th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 10th edition of the Race to Dubai. The Race to Dubai was won by Italian Francesco Molinari, who was also named Golfer of the Year. India's Shubhankar Sharma was named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Changes for 2018 There were changes to membership criteria with the reversal of some of the changes introduced for the 2017 season; the number of players gaining exemption from the final Race to Dubai standings reverted to the top 110 and the Access List was scrapped, largely replaced by a re-ranking system.
