Maxey, Cambridgeshire
Maxey is a village in the Peterborough unitary authority, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England, located between Peterborough and Stamford and southwest of The Deepings. It is home to nearly 700 residents. The main focal points are the one remaining public house (Blue Bell), the Church (St Peter's) and the village hall. Each provides a range of social functions throughout the year. There are a surprising number of businesses based in the village, including a few working farms. Maxey Dell "Max" Moody Sr. (December 12, 1883 – July 27, 1949), also known as M. D. Moody, was the founder of M. D. Moody & Sons, Inc. in 1913 and the patriarch of the Moody family of Jacksonville, Florida. His business, M. D. Moody, became the oldest family owned construction equipment distributor in the United States and at one point the largest crane dealer in the southeast. Moody also founded the American Road Builders' Association and was known as the "oldest construction machinery man in Florida." Camp Maxey is a Texas Army National Guard training facility that was originally built as a U.S. Army infantry-training camp during World War II. It was occupied from July 1942 to early 1946 in Lamar County, Texas. Its main entrance was located nine miles north of Paris, Texas. Planning for the 70,000-acre military post began in 1940, soon after the National Military Draft was ordered; the planning accelerated in 1941 shortly before the United States entered World War II in December 1941. On 1 May 1941, an engineering contract to design a $22,800,000 military camp in northwest Lamar County was awarded to a Dallas firm. On 20 January 1942, Congressman Patman announced that groundbreaking for the camp was imminent. Morris Maxey Titterington (July 20, 1891 – July 11, 1928) was a pioneering aviator, and engineer. Biography Titterington was born in Paris, Texas, the son of George Titterington. Titterington graduated from Bliss Electrical School in 1913. In 1914 he graduated from the Curtiss Flying School. In 1918 he was working for the Sperry Gyroscope Corporation and was living in Brooklyn. He was included in the 1925 edition of Who's Who in American Aviation. Titterington and Brice Herbert Goldsborough founded the Pioneer Instrument Company in 1919. Titterington designed the Earth inductor compass in 1924. In 1928 he took off in a Travel Air, headed across the Pennsylvania mountains and crashed to his death during bad weather after being struck by lightning. Linda Maxey, concert marimbist Linda Maxey is a celebrated concert marimbist virtuoso and was the first marimbist presented by Community Concerts, a division of Columbia Artists Management in New York that presented concerts to a network of subscription audiences whose pooled resources attracted leading performers and ensembles. Artistry Linda Maxey began studying piano at the age of four and marimba at age six.
