Max Thedy (16 October 1858, Munich - 13 August 1924, PollingPeter Stapf: ''Der Maler Max Thedy (1858–1924). Leben und Werk''. Böhlau, Cologne 2014.) was a German painter, designer and engraver. He is sometimes erroneously referred to as Marc Thedy. Biography He was the youngest of twelve children born to Johann Valentin Thedy, a ''Verwaltungsaktuar'' (administrative assistant in the community government) and his wife, Theresia. Ãœberlingen is a German city on the northern shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) in Baden-Württemberg near the border with Switzerland. After the city of Friedrichshafen, it is the second largest city in the Bodenseekreis (district), and a central point for the outlying communities. Since 1 January 1993, Ãœberlingen has been categorized as a large district city (Große Kreisstadt). History The history of Ãœberlingen dates back to Roman times, but a variety of settlements pre-dated Roman occupation. Stone age settlements, discovered along the shoreline of Lake Constance, document that the lake supported several dozen thriving communities of 50–100 individuals. Christian Rohlfs
Christian Rohlfs (November 22, 1849 – January 8, 1938) was a German painter and printmaker, one of the important representatives of German expressionism. Early life and education He was born in Groß Niendorf, Kreis Segeberg in Prussia. He took up painting as a teenager while convalescing from an infection that was eventually to lead to the amputation of a leg in 1874. He began his formal artistic education in Berlin, before transferring, in 1870, to the Weimar Academy. Professional career In 1901 Rohlfs left Weimar for Hagen, where through the architect Henri van der Velde got to know the art collector Karl Ernst Osthaus who offered him a studio in an estate which would become the Museum Folkwang. Rohlfs was the first artist to begin to work there.
