Max Rippon
Maxwell George Rippon (11 October 1920 – 12 July 1985) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy Football Club, Fitzroy, Sydney Swans, South Melbourne and St Kilda Football Club, St Kilda in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Rippon was a wingman, who arrived at Fitzroy from Heatherton. He didn't have much impact in his one-season stints with Fitzroy and South Melbourne but was a regular fixture in the St Kilda team for three seasons. While at St Kilda in 1945 he had a teammate, Ted Rippon, who was his uncle. In 1946 he represented Victoria in an interstate fixture against South Australia. ''The Argus'' was an Australian daily morning newspaper in Melbourne from 2 June 1846 to 19 January 1957, and was considered to be the general Australian newspaper of record for this period. Widely known as a conservative newspaper for most of its history, it adopted a left-leaning approach from 1949. ''The Argus''s main competitor was David Syme's more liberal-minded newspaper, ''The Age''. Brighton Football Club
Brighton Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). The club was based in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and was nicknamed the Penguins. After suffering financial hardship throughout the 1950s, Brighton moved to Caulfield and became the Caulfield Bears in the early to mid-1960s. History An advertisement in '' The Argus'' on 8 June 1859 announced a meeting to be held on the 9th of that month, at the Devonshire Hotel, to form the Brighton Football Club. There are references to an active Brighton Park club in 1867, and Brighton Football club in 1872, 1878, 1882 and 1883. Those clubs may or may not have been connected. Parkdale is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 23 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Kingston local government area. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). Ted Rippon
Edward Charles Rippon (29 April 1914 – 12 December 1991) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon—and for St Kilda after World War II began to draw to a close—in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Edward Charles Rippon (1869–1946), and Florence Georgina Rippon (1876–1964), née Kenney, Edward Charles Rippon was born on 29 April 1914. He married Jen Brenda Watson on 26 November 1938. Football Ted Rippon was recruited by Carlton from Cheltenham; however, a series of injuries prevented him from breaking into Carlton Seniors. He moved to Essendon in 1933, and made his senior debut against St Kilda on 22 July 1933 (Round 13 of the home-and-away season).
