Max Reinhardt (radio Presenter)
Max Reinhardt (born 14 May 1951) is a radio presenter known for presenting Late Junction on BBC Radio 3. Career Reinhardt was a presenter for Late Junction, a music programme broadcast three nights a week on BBC Radio 3. In addition, he was the musical consultant for the South African music series Freedom Sounds on BBC Radio 2, presented a documentary on BBC Radio 4 about his theatre piece Ketubah and is a regular presenter of Global Beats on BBC World Service. As well as his work with the BBC, Reinhardt is the musical director at Oily Cart a company established in 1981 that works with children with complex disabilities. He also edited the memoir of Jewish-Algerian pianist Maurice El Mediouni, published in 2017 by Repeater Books. ''Late Junction'' is a music programme broadcast weekly on Friday nights by BBC Radio 3. Billed as "Experimental music for adventurous listeners.", the programme has a wide musical scope. It is not uncommon to hear medieval ballads juxtaposed with 21st-century electronica, or jazz followed by international folk music followed by an ambient track. Each edition of the programme runs for 120 minutes. History The programme was created soon after Roger Wright took over as controller of BBC Radio 3, as part of changes with which Wright believed that he was addressing "this feeling people had that they didn't want to put Radio 3 on unless they were going to listen carefully". Maurice El Mediouni
Maurice El Mediouni, French El Médioni ( ar, مــوريــس الــمــديــونــي, born on 18 October 1928 in Oran, Algeria) is an Algerian-Jewish pianist, composer and interpreter of Andalusian, rai, Sephardic and Arab music. He is one of the few living artists to have performed with artists such as Lili Labassi, Line Monty, Lili Boniche, Samy el Maghribi, and Reinette l’Oranaise. He is also a professional tailor and took up initially music as a hobby. Born in the Jewish quarter of Oran, in a family of musicians. His uncle was the celebrated Messaoud El Mediouni, "Saoud l'Oranais" who died at the Sobibor concentration camp. He is sometimes regarded as the grandfather of Algerian pop music.
