Max Pinckers
Max Pinckers (1988) is a Belgian photographer based in Brussels. He has self-published the books ''The Fourth Wall'' (2012); ''Will They Sing Like Raindrops or Leave Me Thirsty'' (2014), which won a Photographic Museum of Humanity grant); and ''Red Ink'' (2018), which won the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. Pinckers has also won the Edward Steichen Award Laureate. Life and work Pinckers was born in 1988 in Brussels, Belgium. He gained a BA (2008–2010) and a MFA (2010–2012) in photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium. From 2015 to 2017 he was a nominee member of Magnum Photos before leaving the agency. Nicolò Degiorgis (born 1985) is an Italian visual artist, publisher, photographer, and curator. He runs Rorhof, an independent publishing house in Bolzano, Italy. He has self-published a number of books, including ''Hidden Islam'' (2014). ''Hidden Islam'' won the First PhotoBook award at the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards, the Author Book Award at Rencontres d'Arles, and was a gold winner of the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis. Love Commandos is a voluntary non-profit organization in India which helps and protects couples in love from harassment and honor killing. They provide housing, legal aid, and protection to couples seeking their aid who are being persecuted by family and society for wanting to marry based solely on mutual attraction and love. Overview In India, most marriages are arranged by parents, with potential marriage partners vetted on the basis of caste, complexion, horoscope, etc.,—the matter of love is rarely considered. Falling in love carries a strong social stigma in India. Love across the barriers of caste, religion and economic class can be problematic, resulting in violence and occasionally honor killing. Pamela Chaudry Singh (born 1961), known for some years as Pamella Bordes, is an Indian photographer and former Miss India. Personal life Singh was born in New Delhi in 1961; her father, Major Mahinder Singh Kadian, was an officer in the Indian Army. She attended the Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls' Public School in Jaipur then transferred to the Lady Sri Ram College in Delhi to study literature. She won the Miss India crown in 1982 and represented India in the Miss Universe pageant the same year. She subsequently moved to Europe, where she met and married Henri Bordes. Singh studied at Parsons School of Design in New York, the American University of Paris, and the International Center of Photography in New York. She took to photography as her career in 1997. Gauri Gill (born 1970) is an Indian contemporary photographer who lives in New Delhi. She has been called "one of India's most respected photographers" by the New York Times and one of "the most thoughtful photographers active in India today" in The Wire. In 2011 Gill was awarded the Grange Prize, Canada's most prestigious contemporary photography award.
