Max M. Sandfield
Max M. Sandfield (January 28, 1903 – April 12, 1994) was an architect, sculptor, and artist. Life Born in the Russian Empire, Sandfield immigrated to the United States as an infant and was raised in San Antonio. He graduated from MIT in 1925 with a bachelor's degree in architecture. In April 1944 he met Carol Wiener, whom he married three months later. They had five children together: Norman, Joan, Robert, Carol Lynn and Byron. Architecture Sandfield was part of a team of architects in Dallas, including Howard R. Meyer and William W. Wurster, that built Temple Emanu-el in 1957. Temple Emanu-El of Dallas, Texas (founded in 1875) was the first Reform Jewish congregation in North Texas, and is the largest synagogue in the South. History Temple Emanu-El of Dallas was founded in 1873 and chartered in 1875. Originally called the Jewish Congregation Emanu-El, it was renamed Temple Emanu-El Congregation in 1974. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. Twenty-five Year Award
The Twenty-five Year Award is an architecture prize awarded each year by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to "a building that has set a precedent for the last 25 to 35 years and continues to set standards of excellence for its architectural design and significance". The Twenty-five Year Award was first presented in 1969, and has been handed out every year from 1971 onward, with the exception of 2018. In 2021, the prize was awarded to the Burton Barr Central Library in Phoenix by Will Bruder. The project receiving the award can be located anywhere in the world, but must be designed by an architect licensed in the United States. Only five buildings outside of the United States have received the award, one each in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Barcelona, Spain; and Paris, France; and two in London, England.
