A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a head of state (including the Pope) or representative for service to the monarch, the church or the country, especially in a military capacity. Franz Joseph I or Francis Joseph I (german: Franz Joseph Karl, hu, Ferenc József Károly, 18 August 1830 – 21 November 1916) was Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, and the Grand title of the Emperor of Austria, other states of the Habsburg monarchy from 2 December 1848 until his death on 21 November 1916. Gabriel Cornelius Ritter von Max (23 August 1840 – 24 November 1915) was a Prague-born Austrian painter. Biography He was born Gabriel Cornelius Max, the son of the sculptor Josef Max and Anna Schumann. He studied between 1855 and 1858 at the Prague Academy of Arts with Eduard von Engerth. His studies included parapsychology (somnambulism, hypnotism, spiritism), Darwinism, Asiatic philosophy, the ideas of Schopenhauer, and various mystical traditions. The spiritual-mystical movement was emphasized by the writings of Carl du Prel, and the Munich painter Albert Keller was also an influence. His first large canvas was painted in 1858 while he was a student at the Prague Academy. He continued his studies at the Viennese Academy of Art with Karl von Blaas, , Christian Ruben and Carl Wurzinger. Josef Max
Josef Calanza Max (16 January 1804, Janov – 18 June 1855, Prague) was a German-Czech sculptor. His brother was the sculptor Emanuel Max. Life Max came from a family of sculptors and woodcarvers and received his first lessons from his father. In 1822, encouraged by letters from one of his father's former students, he moved to Prague, where he found employment in a woodcarving workshop. From 1823 to 1824, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Joseph Bergler. He continued working for the woodcarving shop and married the owner's daughter, Anna Maria Schuhmann, in 1834. Adolphe Max
Adolphe Eugène Jean Henri Max (30 December 1869 – 6 November 1939) was a Belgian liberal politician and mayor of the City of Brussels from 1909 until his death. He was also an irregular freemason, an honorary Minister of State and a member of the Institut de France. Max graduated in law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and entered the legal profession, besides doing journalistic work. When he was 25 years old, he was elected a province councillor for Brabant, and was elected a city councillor in 1903. After he had worked as a magistrate, he was appointed city mayor of Brussels on 6 December 1909. Under the German occupation of Brussels during the First World War, Max refused to cooperate with the occupying forces. As a result, he was arrested and held in captivity, first at Namur, and then at Glatz (Poland) and Goslar (Germany), until he escaped on 13 November 1918. Édouard Alexandre de Max (born Eduard-Alexandru Max Romalo; 14 February 1869 – 28 October 1924) was a Romanian actor who became a star in Parisian theatre. As a student at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique, Paris Conservatoire he won prizes for tragedy and comedy, but it was as a tragedian that he became celebrated, appearing in classic works by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare, Jean Racine, Racine, Friedrich Schiller, Schiller, Victor Hugo and others, as well as new works by writers including Oscar Wilde, Victorien Sardou and Henri Bernstein. He appeared with many leading performers, including Gabrielle Réjane, but his best known and most frequent partnership was with Sarah Bernhardt. Emil Max
Emil Max (1834–1894) was a Romanian physician. Born into a Jewish family in Botoșani, his father Iosif was an experienced accoucheur, with an 1832 degree from Pest University. Emil obtained a doctorate from Vienna University in 1858. Moving to Iași, he first worked for the city, then at its hospitals. In 1864, he was named administrator and professor at the Gregorian Institute, where for thirteen years he headed the midwives’ school. In 1872, recognizing his merits, the Romanian Parliament approved an endowment for his salary and for the school. In 1877, as the result of an intrigue, he was dismissed, and the government’s intercession on his behalf proved futile. He later published a series of medical works, including the 1888-1891 textbook ''Arta obstetricală''. Peter Max (born Peter Max Finkelstein, October 19, 1937) is a German-American artist known for using bright colors in his work. Works by Max are associated with the visual arts and culture of the 1960s, particularly psychedelic art and pop art. Early life and education Peter Max was born in Berlin, the son of German Jews Salla and Jakob. They fled Berlin in 1938, settling in Shanghai, China, where they lived for the next ten years.
