Maurice Wyckaert
Maurice Wyckaert (1923–1996) was a Belgian artist born in Brussels. He is a neo-expressionistic, lyrical abstract painter, gouache designer and printmaker. He was educated at the Academy of Brussels (1940–47 and 1949–50) and in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and the Vrije Atelier of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert. He debuted with wonderful expressionistic still life, reminiscent of Jean Brusselmans. Much early work dealt with stills of vegetables. Later Wyckaert became interested by William Turner and James Ensor and their ideas of luminism. In 1955 Wyckaert started to lyrically abstract interpret his environment, which contained noticeable influences of Eastern calligraphy. From this, he evolved to a dynamic abstract combination of attractive colors, which harmoniously shape a free interpretation of landscape. International Movement For An Imaginist Bauhaus
The International Movement for an Imaginist Bauhaus was a small European avant-garde artistic tendency that arose out of the breakup of COBRA, and was initiated by contact between former COBRA members Asger Jorn and Enrico Baj and Sergio Dangelo of the Nuclear Art Movement. When Asger Jorn recovered from tuberculosis in the autumn of 1952, he tried for a year to restart his career in Denmark. However, in autumn 1953 he moved to Villars-sur-Ollon in Switzerland. It was here he heard of the Hochschule fur Gestaltung in Ulm. However, when he wrote to Max Bill with a proposal for collaboration, it soon became apparent that their views were highly divergent. Jorn wrote in a letter to Enrico Baj: " Swiss architect, Max Bill, has undertaken to restructure the Bauhaus where Klee and Kandinsky taught. The Situationist International (SI) was an international organization of social revolutionaries made up of avant-garde artists, intellectuals, and political theorists. Jacques Brel Metro Station
Jacques Brel is a Brussels Metro List of Brussels metro and premetro stations, station on the western branch of Brussels Metro line 5, line 5. It is located in the List of municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, municipality of Anderlecht, in the western part of Brussels, Belgium. It is named after the Belgian singer, songwriter, and poet Jacques Brel. The station opened on 6 October 1982 as part of the Beekkant metro station, Beekkant–Saint-Guidon/Sint-Guido metro station, Saint Guidon/Sint-Guido extension of former line 1B. Following the reorganisation of the Brussels Metro on 4 April 2009, it is served by line 5. The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) is an artistic and cultural centre on The Mall in London, just off Trafalgar Square. Located within Nash House, part of Carlton House Terrace, near the Duke of York Steps and Admiralty Arch, the ICA contains galleries, a theatre, two cinemas, a bookshop and a bar. Bengi Unsal became the director in 2022. History The ICA was founded by Roland Penrose, Peter Watson, Herbert Read, Peter Gregory, Geoffrey Grigson and E. L. T. Mesens in 1946.
