Maurice Laframboise
Maurice Laframboise (August 18, 1821 – February 1, 1882) was a Quebec lawyer, judge and political figure. Biography He was born Maurice-Alexis Laframboise in Montreal, Lower Canada in 1821. He studied at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal, then articled in law and was called to the bar in 1843. He set up practice in Saint-Hyacinthe. In 1846, he married Marie-Eugénie-Rosalie Dessaulles, daughter of Jean Dessaulles; he looked after the family seigneury until 1852 when the property was distributed among his father-in-law's children. Laframboise was mayor of Saint-Hyacinthe from 1857 to 1860. In 1858, he was elected in Bagot as a member of the Parti rouge; he was reelected in 1861 and 1863. He was named to the Executive Council in 1863 as commissioner of Public Works; as was required at the time, he was elected in a by-election that same year for the same seat after being named to the cabinet. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. The Red Party (french: Parti rouge, or french: Parti démocratique) was a political group that contested elections in the Eastern section of the Province of Canada. It was formed around 1847 by radical French-Canadians inspired by the ideas of Louis-Joseph Papineau, the '' Institut canadien de Montréal'', and the reformist movement led by the Parti patriote of the 1830s. The Red Party did not experience electoral success in the same manner as the Blue Party, their electoral rivals in Canada East. Because of their anti-clerical beliefs, the Red Party was condemned by the Catholic Church, contributing to their lack of electoral success. Louis-Onésime Loranger (April 7, 1837 – August 18, 1917) was a Canadians, Canadian lawyer, politician, and judge. Born in Yamachiche, Quebec, Yamachiche, Lower Canada, the son of Joseph Loranger and Marie-Louise Dugal, Loranger was educated in Montreal at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal and studied law at the Collège Sainte-Marie. He was called to the Bar of Lower Canada in 1858 and practiced law with his brothers, Thomas-Jean-Jacques Loranger, Thomas-Jean-Jacques and Jean-Marie. He was made a Queen's Counsel in 1881.
