Maulsby Willett Blackman
Maulsby Willett Blackman (1876–1943) was an American entomologist. Biography Blackman was born in 1876. In 1905, he received the Ph.D. degree in entomology from Harvard University. Starting from 1907 to 1929, he was on the faculty of the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse. He was appointed as senior entomologist in 1929 at the Bureau of Entomology, a branch of the United States Department of Agriculture. Blackman worked there until his death in 1943. His speciality was forest entomology, during which career he spent time researching the biology and taxonomy of Scolytidae A bark beetle is the common name for the subfamily of beetles Scolytinae. The New York State College of Forestry, the first professional school of forestry in North America, opened its doors at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York, in the autumn of 1898., It was advocated for by Governor Frank S. Bureau Of Entomology
The Bureau of Entomology was a unit within the Federal government of the United States from 1894 to 1934. It developed from a section of the Department of Agriculture which had been working on entomological researches and allied issues relating to insects. Scolytidae
A bark beetle is the common name for the subfamily of beetles Scolytinae. Previously, this was considered a distinct family (Scolytidae), but is now understood to be a specialized clade of the "true weevil" family (Curculionidae).
